We
came, we saw, we ran away with most of the prizes!!!
A
leather jacket, two napsacks, a swiss army watch,
a hiking pack, a poker set and a telescope all go
to the 3NE 2NR crew.
The
story goes a lil like this... TriniTuner.com heard
about the Marlboro Red Pulse Indy promotion and
decided to give Alston's Marketing a lil bligh in
the form of our own campaign - 2NR style.
We
posted up the results from the first of 5 events
and tuner's from near and far signed up for both
the "lucky draw" chance to win a trip
for 2 to the Indy 300 in Miami and a chance to win
cool prizes in the Gran Turismo 3 racing competition.
At
every event there would be a draw for the free trip
for two, which meant that a total of 10 people would
be going to the Toyota Indy 300 courtesy Marlboro!!!
At
the second event in Club Platinum, your's truly
decided to have a go at the Gran Turismo 3 racing
game - quite a seasoned GT3 player - if I do say
so myself - I was a bit disappointed to find out
that the track they were racing was Super Speedway
and both drivers had to do battle with the Corvette
C5R race car. I guess that was to level the playing
field.
The
set up was pretty impressive: two arcade style machines
- the ones you sit in - complete with that F1 look,
Momo racing seats and a carbon fibre USB steering
with stick and paddle shifters. They decided to
not use the pedals on the floor, but rather the
button on the steering wheel for brake and gas.
All racers were set to automatic, a bad thing for
the more experienced drivers. The machines were
basically a sweet looking shell housing two TV's
and two PS2's iLinked to each other. I can just
picture them sitting in an entertainment room in
my dream house right bewteen the snooker table and
the 62" plasma HDTV.
Anyway,
back our story... There I was taking my practice
lap getting a feel for this seat and steering -
somewhere between wishing I had a PS2 controller
in my hand and loving this cool set up with the
Momo race seat. My practice lap was done and I was
told I was going to race - all went well in that
race, hell I won!!! But I noticed that my opponent
was half track behind me by lap 3 of 6 and by the
last lap I was fighting him off to stay in front!!!
- With some inquiry I found out that the slow car
boost was on - this meant that the loosing car became
faster than the winning car. This was changed later
in the competition, so you can see fastest lap times
have increased from the first event to the last.
This makes no difference to the podium and the main
competition as it only boosts the slower car.
Attending
the other events, the 3rd which was held at Screamers2
had a large turn out, the 4th event at TGIF Chaguanas
was plagued with inclement weather though.
The
Grand Finale 5th event at TGIF POS was our crowning
moment.
I
went to the event to support the cause and to claim
my stake as a finalist for the grand Prize of a
Marlboro Leather Jacket and other paraphenalia.
With me for the lime was Narend Sooknarine aka Zorce
and Nebert Marin aka Sasman who had us sporting
the new DataDot Security t-shirts. Wagon-R was also
present, plus a bunch of other tuners.
Lo
and behold my phone rings and its none other than
our very own Rawle Francis aka Crawl 3NE 2NR aka
7even aka Felix Wankel or what ever he calls himself
today. For this article we will refer to him as
Crawl.
Anyway
Crawl calls me to say he is in the area and he is
comin to lime. He walks in and immediately signs
up for the last round of competition. He is up against
first timers to the event Wagon-R, Sasman, Zorce,
Keiron Gomez and Jason Alleyne aka DJ Jus Jase.
It was a fierce battle since Wagon-R lives on his
PS2 and Narend and Sasman were out for the kill.
Jase took the podium and Crawl was handed 2nd place
by 0.029 of a second!!!
Now
time for the much awaited Final Round for the entire
event. First and second place winners from each
of the previous events will race each other here
for the podium. I myself was up against Just Jase
and after some ole talk and picong and the occasional
intimidation talk I realised he was cracking under
the pressure. So I intimidated some more!!! Ok ok
ok maybe it didnt work.
At
the first corner of the race I spun out and of all
things I ended up on the pit road, where the car
is limited to 50km/h while Jase went zippping along
at nearly 200km/h. I had to catch him but even after
6 laps I couldnt smell his smoke and unfortunately
for me they had disabled the slow car boost since
two events before. There was no winning this. But
there is a good side, for me at least. In my desparate
fight to catch him I paid alot of attention to my
lines, corner apex, enter and exit speeds. Ok I
may have used the concrete rails as brakes a few
times, but I managed the fastest lap time of the
finals!!! Thank you Thank you :)
Crawl
and Jase were battling it out with Robert Greer
close behind. Damany Smith and Joseph Adjodha were
still to run. From out of no where, the 1st event
winner Kirk Ho Hing aka Mr Fixables showed up and
said they told him that the competition would start
at 10pm, when it really started since 6pm and nearly
all the races had been run. After a friendly protest
he was in the running and perfectly set to disrupt
the current standings. However as luck would have
it Crawl was not to be out done and he emerged winner
of the tournament with an overall time of 3 minutes,
40.213 seconds.
So
there you have it, Crawl won the leather jacket
easier than you can say Felix Wankel, 7 times fast.
Jus jase a very close 2nd, Robert Greer 3rd and
your's truly 4th, with the fastest lap time as well.
I won a cool telescope, little did they know that
the real stars would be 3NE 2NR's.
