Street Legal Drag Racing - 8th July 2001

Wallerfield's circuit track was the site of the very first organized street legal drag racing. The inaugural battle was presented by $hel$hok and Speed Promotions and it ushered in the birth of their organized street car drags. Unlike the AutoSport Promotions Street Drags which adopts a very competitive flair and is produced with NHRA spec lights and timings systems, this event was simply a matter of zipping through the traps first.

While the car count was rather light, as was the crowd, drivers proved that they can still put on a great fight as the racing action was tight with some solid runs despite the tricky starting system.

Many familiar faces decided to heat up the track and via for the $600 first prize. Amongst them were DJ Scooby with his restored Firebird, Jude and his impressive Yellow Civic, Adel and his Audi S4, Richard's SSS, John and his mad 2-door Escort.

The entire exercise lasted about 2 hours with run after run after run all in quick succession. I can certainly say that non-stop racing action is a definite stress reliever. From my vantage point, the small crowd constantly kept the enthusiasm alive with incessant verbal comments and hilarious jokes about racing.
