So
the big attraction of Night Drag Racing brought out
possibly the largest crowd in AutoSport Drag Racing
this last Saturday. And in similar vein, the largest
entry list with many first time racers jumping into
the fray and even more surprisingly, beating some
of the more experienced racers out of podium finishes.
But first apologies must be made for the long delay
at the start because of the late setup of the lighting
towers. This we take the blame for, but all our
agreements were for the lights from different suppliers,
to be in place on Friday night. This obviously was
beyond our control but we have already taken measures
to avoid this in the future. Yes the very near future
will see further Night Drag Racing at its best.
There were some truly outstanding performances
with the large crowd thoroughly enjoying a total
of 168 runs in less than 4 hours of Racing.
Tongues
are still wagging about the time put down by Feraz
Akaloo in the Shiek Lisha Camaro who seems to always
have something special in Night Drag Racing Events.
Remember that sideways wheelie he gave us in July
last year? Well he certainly ran one of his best
straight line races this time around. We are however
double checking his time with the equipment suppliers
in the USA since we are seeing some figures that
on the surface seem to create some doubt. And low
oil pressure prevented him from making another pass
under what his team felt were perfect conditions
for extreme performances. Michael Luke however emerged
winner of the Open Class in Heads-Up competition
with Feraz in second place and Michael Douglas occupying
the second-runner-up position.
In 11 seconds Brian Franco returned to winners
row with his Escort 3000 over Ram Beharry with his
Superman 2nd Generation Turbo Rx 7. And what a run
Superman put down, certainly pulling out some of
his Kypronite powers to squeeze between two slabs
on the right before regaining total control to come
back onto the return lane, of course facing the
wrong direction.
Out
for the first time this year, Paul Chung quickly
grabbed the top spot in both the Heads-Up and Dial-Up
in the 12 Seconds Class over Christian Tam in his
immaculate Nissan Skyline. Gregory Chung with his
1800 Turbo Honda Civic was the pick of the the new
young racers when he ran the best 4-cylinder time
for the night and collared the experienced Tam in
his 4 Wheel Drive Skyline.
13 seconds Bracket saw 2003 champion Rajesh Ramjattan
with his Ke30 2800 Corolla getting the better of
first timer Neil Cox in his Subaru Impreza. In third
spot was Chester Lewis with his venerable Datsun
1200 van fitted with the popular SR20Turbo.
Willie Moolar turned up with his supporting team
to register his first win in the 14-Seconds Class
with his Datsun 1200, this one also fitted with
the popular 3000cc Nissan straight 6 Engine. In
second place was Daryl Ali with his Turbo Honda
Civic.
In
the 15 seconds bracket Gerrard Maraj with his Turbo
1600 Lancer, showed that his efforts in his TriniTuner
outings paid off as he enjoyed first time luck in
Official Bracket Racing, when he won over Rawle
Francis with his Turbo Mazda Rx7 and the experienced
Erica Jobity-Dinnoo and Eddie Awkar both tying for
third place.
In the Dial-Up in 15 seconds, another first timer
in the person of Kerry O’Neal with his big
medalist fitted with the SR20Turbo knocked Erica
with her Turbo Starlet into second place and in
third spot was Seaton Mitchell with the only B14
Sentra Taxi - yes this is a daily route taxi operating
in the Trincity area.
The 16 seconds Bracket saw Richard Mano making
a welcome return with his Toyota Trueno to win over
Laro Mohammed with his 280 ZX and another first
timer Jodi James copping the third spot with his
Mazda 323F, but this is also another "conversion"
sporting the Nissan SR20Turbo engine.
And in 16 Seconds Dial-Up it was Clayton Jobity
with his Turbo Lancer gaining the top spot when
he held off Laro Mohammed and Jodi James.
