Drag Racing in St. Croix - September 2004

After having visited one of T&T’s Drag Racing Events at the Autodrome the Caribbean Drag Racing Association (St. Croix) invited selected cars to participate in one of their events together with the boys from St. Marteen. This track gave a whole new meaning to side-by-side racing since the entire width of the track was about the size of one of our lanes here in T&T. The entire T&T team was unbeaten in any run done on Saturday with personal best times being posted by Erica (13.7sec) and Chester (11.4sec). Jason Laing in the Puff N Stuff RX7 ran a personal best of 8.9 seconds but was unable to take part in the competition due to poor lighting in the shutdown area and settled for a grudge run of 1/8 mile against one of St. Croix’s top cars which he won quite comfortably. Gary however, in his V8 powered Galant Wagon proved to be quite a challenge and sent home all that St. Croix had to offer but had to settle for a 3rd place in the open class behind the 2 contenders from St. Marteen. ie Vagabond 1st and Horsepower 2nd.
