Solodex VI – The final Frontier Wingroad?

2005 saw local motorsport fraught with controversy. By the time Solodex VI rolled around, rumors were flying back and forth about the future of Wallerfield, as well as rallying’s most popular stages venue at Chaguaramas. With options running out, Solodex looked better and better as the year wore on.

With all this darma as the backdrop, twenty-nine competitors came out to the Arima Race Club (ARC)car park to face off for the final Solodex competition event of the year. Once again, the rookies came out in their numbers to take center stage. The first run group was dedicated to the fifteen hard charging novices, led by Yorkshire-Lass, Karen Pinheiro, who has established herself as the one to beat. As it turned out, there were four drivers who rose to the challenge.

Newcomer, Alistair Dalgliesh pulled off a debut victory, followed by Johann Richards, Nicholas Loquan, Devon Ramoo and Vaughn Callender. In true Solodex fashion, the cars were varied across the top five, with a Toyota Starlet, two Honda Civics, a Rover 200vi, and Karen’s Peugot 306.

All this top-five action almost went unnoticed when Candace Bhagirath lined up her Nissan 200SX behind Jody Ali’s Honda S2000. Both drivers dere set on finding out who was the top drifter of the day. Unfortunately, Candace’s ‘spirited’ driving had the better of her tyres, and she had to retire after two runs. Despite this, she still managed to wow the crowd with some sideways action during the break.

There were no real surprises in the ES, ESP and SS classes, with Ryan Ramsaran, Robert Bates and Tim Kimpton winning each class respectively. The odd finisher of they day had to be Kirk Ho Hing. After dominating the HS class all year long with .phper the friendly Corolla Wagon, he finished an uncharacteristic third…..something about “…is not my car” Sorry Kirk, that’s MY excuse! :-)

At the end of the day there were some long faces, as the long waity began for the 2006 season. However, the announcement was made that CARS would hold two BYCC events during the ‘off’ season, to keep the likes of Ryan and Alan (AKA Zodiaque) happy. Hopefully this will be enough to keep Goodyear, Kumho, Toyo, Bridgestone and Michelin in business for another year…..
