The first TTKA event for 2007 was quite successful with new and exciting additions for the year. Following is a breakdown by class and the respective results:-
Cadet Class:
This was the first time that the karting association introduced this class for children ranging in age from 5 to 10 years. It is hoped that they can be encouraged to continue participating and have fun while developing the skills needed to compete at higher levels in years to come.
Results (Overall Standing at the end of the 3 races):
1st Place -
Ty Carrington (nephew of Gerard Carrington)
2nd Place - Bridget Singh (fast on her father's - Ravi Singh - heels)
3rd Place - Che Carrington (Gerard Carrington's son)
100 cc Class:
This class was not as large as it was in the past year as many of the drivers moved up to the Rotax class resulting in only 4 competitors for day. It proved however to be quite exciting as the lead changed many times during each race. Following are the day's overall results:
Results (Overall Standing at the end of the 3 races):
1st Place - Sharaz Hosein (returning after a few missed races last year)
2nd Place - Haresh Nanan
3rd Place - Brent Hurdle (racing for the first time)
Mention must be made of the lone female driver Brittany Mohammed who consistently gave the guys a battle.
Rotax Class:
Wow! This was the biggest class boasting the most competitors since Pier 2 with 16 drivers. There are now 3 categories making up this class, Rotax International (9), Rotax Masters (5) and Rotax Junior (1). In the International category there were 9 competitors including last year's champion David Coehlo, Marc Gill and last year's 100cc champion Ryan Peyrau. We anxiously await the return of Gregory De Verteuil who is expected back for the April race meet.
The Masters class included Circuit Racing Champion, Gerard Carrington who drove in both the Rotax and Shifter class this meet. We also saw the return of Anslem Ali and Rotary Guru Ravi Singh.
The lone Rotax Junior (the specs on the engine are slightly different to that of International and Masters) driver, Brandon Steele had his hands full as he was started on the grid between the international and masters categories each race and had to work his way through the pack.
Each race proved to be thrilling as the driving skills of all competitors had the spectators excited and all eyes glued to the track.
Following are the day's overall results:
Results (Overall Standing at the end of the 3 races):
1st Place - Marc Gill
2nd Place - Ryan Peyrau
3rd Place - David Coehlo
Shifter Class:
This class was also undersubscribed, but proved to be just as exciting as the Rotax Class, with the return of Ryan Garcia who balzed the track and left everyone in his dust on the day. Young Shainder Singh made a daring move on last year's champion Gary Hunt only to have his front wheel fly off the kart on the turn forcing him out of the first race.
Results (Overall Standing at the end of the 3 races):
1st Place - Ryan Garcia
2nd Place - Gary Hunt
3rd Place - Garard Carrington
