TTKA Karting @ ARC - 24th June 2007

Folks ... I keep telling you not to miss any of the karting events!  Sunday's event again proved to be a thriller.  Drivers again came out in their numbers on what started out to be a sunny day.

Unfortunately on the day we did not have any of the Cadet races as the youngsters are preparing for exams, so the mummies and daddies thought it best that they spend their time'hitting the books.'  Wait! does that make me a dilinquent for allowing Brandon to race!?!  Don't answer that.

Brent Hurdle battling Sheraz HoseinAnyway 100 cc action was fierce as usual with Sheraz Hosein (77) and Brent Hurdle (00) battling tooth and nail for the checkered flag.  Johnathan Mc Kenzie (30) has again improved and will definitely be a force to reckon with in the not too distant future.  Dragster Ricardo Aguilera made a move that had the spectators .. or maybe just me ... speechless as he somehow managed to weave his way through 3 tightly bunched karts to make a daring pass in race 2.  All in all the 100 cc class gave us added excitement with some pushing and a few bumps.

Next in the line up was the Shifter Class, with Gerard Carrington (18), John Tannous (33), Vernon 'Chicky' Martin and Shameel Mohammed (7).  Oh, I almost forgot Ryan Peyrau who was given a 'tosh' in kart 7 in the second race of the day and after a couple spins by the leader, Ryan managed to take control of the race and win. It seems that this class will continue to grow and once again be the highlight of the day.  RYAN G ... where are you!?!!

Rotax Masters was entertaining with a field of six competitors and battles for top spot among Anslem Ali (70), Prentice Ali (26) and Gerard Carrington (18), Shameel Mohammed (7) who again raced both Shifter and Masters.  Peter Tang (81) was as consistent as ever with newcomer Martin Abraham (4) still getting a hang of the ropes.

Brandon SteeleThe biggie as usual was the Rotax International Class with a field of nine.  It seems like these guys get better and better every meeting.  There was again noticeable improvement with Luke Bhola and Nicholas Narinesingh.  Newcomer Gerald Aboud (44) had a tough time when conditions got wet as he tried to keep his kart on the course.  We of course missed the presence of Marc Gill (8), but hopefully he would back next meeting.

Gregory De Verteuil also had a hard day with 3 flat tyres.  Greg, maybe you should invest in a proper air compressor instead of trying to inflate them with a balloon pump. (The views expressed are not those of the author or any known individual).

The last race of the day was the most exciting for me (I wonder why).  The drivers really tried their darndest to maneuver the wet course with as little mistakes as possible.  One wrong move and it would have meant the difference between holding the checkered flag and ... well ... not.  From very early Ravi Singh (75) took the lead in front of the pack, but with deft precision Brandon Steele (134) made his way through the pack from third to last, to pass Ravi on the inside of the top corner to go on and take victory.
