A Man's Beer |
The Trinidad & Tobago Rally Club hosted the first Leg of the Caribbean Speed Stages Rally Championship on 31st March & 1st April in association with The Ministry of Sport &Youth Affairs and primary Sponsors Ultra Oils / Stag Beer
The Rally attracted several foreign teams, notably Harold Morley driving a Prod rive WRC Subaru 2004 Model with Geoffrey Goddard co-driving. Also in attendance was James Betts and co-driver Dean Serrao, pedaling an Opel Corsa 1.4 litre to some incredible times.
The Rally started at the Borde Narve Area and passed through Gravel Roads in Cedar Hill & Bronte and Barrackpore areas on Saturday and moved to the Preysal Gran Couva area on Saturday Night and all of Sunday for the Grand Finale.
WRC
The First Car on the line on the Extended Bronte (10KM) was the WRC Car of Harold Morley sponsored by Neal & Massy Automotive - local agents for SUBARU. The WRC Impreza roared through the start and posted a time of 5min 28sec. Harold said after that it was his test run to see how the car would go on the very long and testing Bronte to Barrackpore Stage. Unfortunately our Foreign Guest had major problems on his hand when the Turbo exploded on the next run through the Bronte Run and the team had to retire the Subaru from Rally Trinidad 2007.
GROUP 3-A (4WD)
Ainsley Lochan/Scott Sheppard in the Ultra/Stag Evo 6 were the next Competitors out and they sent a clear message to the WRC Subaru Team that they will be a force to be reckoned with ( not knowing that Harold was out) on the weekend by bettering the Subaru time by 15sec posting a 5 min 13 sec. They effortlessly then continued to show the fine form of the Ultra/ Stag/ Josefs team and posted a fantastic time of 5min 4 sec setting a benchmark for the New Bronte/ Barrackpore run .
Barry Mckenzie/Justin Wallace in the Ultra/ RallyMac Motors Evo 6 were up next and they turned a respectable 5min 37sec even with suspension and Transfer Box problems. This car was repaired after a major roll at the last event and was only finished on the morning of the event, when they found out that the Front Shocks were bent. They replaced the competition units with Stock one to continue and had to disconnect the rear drive as the Transfer case was also broken so the team rallied on regardless in front wheel drive for the rest of the Day stages.
Vishal Dhanraj/ Ian Rouse followed in the Esso/ Lucozade Subaru and sedately posted 6min 23 Sec. then steadily bought their time down to finish with a best of 5min 46 sec on the Bronte. This team is showing a marked improvement since joining the Fit Lucozade outfit.
Jerome Lum Hung / Rudy Ramsawak in the Royal Purple/Josar Ltd sponsored 323 suffered a Broken Transfer case on the start and they missed all 4 day Saturday Stages, but were back out for the night sector.
The final 4WD Rally car was the KARS/ Esso Evo 7 of Kirk Pouchet/ Krishna Rajkumar and this was their début event for the Evo 7 and its Crew. They also had drive train problems on the first run when they popped a left rear prop shaft. Luckily the 4wd cars can run with 3 Props and that’s what they did for the rest of the morning session posting a best time of 6min 34seconds.
