VK Super Special - 11th November 2007

They came up with the idea, they saw the opportunity, and they conquered everyone who was involved, be they patrons, be they sponsors be they competitors.

The VK Super Special 1, staged as a signature event by the VK Rally Team, in conjunction with AutoSport, has been indelibly etched on the tongues and minds of everyone who was even remotely involved.

Having the brand new Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs squeeze in a timely appearance between a Church Service early on Sunday morning and his attendance at the Government-mandated retreat in distant Salybia, we all got the assurances that finally, finally, Motor Sport in Trinidad and Tobago will get that genuine Government Support and recognition that is so long overdue.

Following any Motor Sport Event there is always some doubt amongst competitors about who did well, and who “coulda” and who “shouda”, and even from those who did not take part, who “woulda”. Not this one.

This Event was supported by TTASA, CARS, TTRA, The Karting Association, TORMATT, the Drifters, and a powerful group of Rally drivers, yes every Motor Sport Discipline showing off their wares on ONE track in ONE Event. The synergies came together like cake and ice-cream, like bake and shark, like no one could ever have imagined prior to the morning of Sunday 11th November 2007, definitely a red-letter day for Motor Sport in T&T. Nuff talk.

So the big question is, when is the next one? And the very definite answer, as of this time, is simply, soon!

Did the stated intent of having the best big names in Motor Sport in T&T endorse and participate, really serve as the catalyst to attract the cream of the crop across the board? With John Powell as an event adviser, Gerard Carrington and Peter Morris sharing top billing, there was very little effort to achieve the maximum number of 40 experienced competitors for this inaugural event, and only because there was a lil mix up, that we agreed to stay with the 45 competitors who submitted forms on briefing night.

And to end competition by taking the winners of the ten different classes on race day, and pitting them against each other in a handicap finalé was the icing on the cake. Apart from each of these finalists having already achieved their bragging-rights status, they had an added opportunity of going for the kill in the final shoot-out.

Just keep in mind, that as the very first Event, attempted for the very first time by the VK Rally Team, the sky is the limit when bigger and better ideas, (already down on paper) are factored into the gradually wider scope that this Team has its sights set on. Be forewarned.
