The Good, The Bad and The Gorgeous - 15th. October 2000

The spectacular return of The Parts Unlimited Pontiac Firebird forced high spirits in anticipation of an action packed event at Wallerfield this weekend. It was the premiere of one of the "good guys" Colin Ablack who had taken an extended 3 year vacation from racing. His return to the strip was well rewarded as the the Firebird's maiden E.T. was 9.6 seconds, much to the delight of the massive crowd.

Ryan Garcia in his SKF sponsored, rear wheel drive, full chassis'd machine tore the house down, producing the fastest time for the day. The car blasted an 8.938-secs @159.57mph right out of the box and claimed victory.

Click here to purchase action shots of Sundays RacesThe other "Good Guys" like Tweety and the Showtime Rail had to settle for 9-sec passes.
Apparently the Gormandy rail in its return to the track after the "accident" three months ago, suffered some minor set backs forcing them out of competition. Richie Rich and the Rug Doctor were behaving bad in the open class by producing some impressive 9-sec times also.

Speaking of BAD, the "bad boys" Jason Laing in the Castrol 7 and Ian Lord in the VW were notorious all day, popping wheelies left, right and center. Wheelie bars fellars????? Gordon Rooks tried to show them what BAD is by almost spinning the car as it hooked at the start of his much awaited run against Ryan. Ryan won the race as Gordon had to back off the throttle to correct. Much to the spectators dismay, there was no rerun as daylight faded.

Oswald Stoute displayed some bad attitude when he was relegated into second place in the fourteen second class by our fellow TriniTuner Nebert Marin who took first with some strategic driving.
Sadly, the days main event, dubbed "Trinidad's Fastest CIVIC" was a no go. Both the Starlight Drugs Hatchback and the Climate Controlled Vtec were plagued with unexpected problems.

The Semi stock races were most competitive with several entrants. In the 15 second bracket, Castrol's Sheldon Chin made his debut with the blue Turbo Starlet but Kieth Darbeau proved that the good old Ford naturally .phpirated 1600 was still a major player even after twenty years given the current spate of forced induction engines to compete with.

Trinituner's most admired female racer, Erica Jobity Dinoo had her hands full with an onslaught of pressure from Rajiv "Illegal Toy" Sant, Shel Shock, Mr Fixables, and Ria. Though her driving was impressive, Sant managed to win the final 2 races in fine form. Mr Shel Shok, seems to be getting his Honda to shave off a fraction of a second at every meet. This weekend he could not keep the car from breaking his 16 second bracket. Guess he will have to spend some more money to run consistent 15's, and try to tangle with Keith at the next meet.

Is it only us???? or are the female fans becoming more and more present at Drags???
Not to mention Gorgeous..............We dont mind - Take a look.
