Y2K!
- At the end of 1999 we all waited in anticipation for the year 2000.
Fears about the so-called Y2K bug caused many to hold their breaths
over concerns over the unknown. At the end of it all, not one single
report of an automotive electronic computer failure. Furthermore, not
one computer glitch or banking error to complain about.
This
year saw great leaps and bounds for turbo charged engine tuning with
widespread use of laptops for tuning and fine tuning race engines. Technical
innovations by themselves are not without their own bugs, as was the
case with the new Starlite Drugs turbo charged civic.
Looking
back, you all remember the SKF/Tweety battles that fueled intense competition
between the two. Battles that also kept our attention included the Sherrif/RugDoctor/Greenday
toss up. In the 16-second category we saw the debut of ShelShok and
his SiR Civic doing battle with Erica Dinnoo in her Castrol sponsored
Starlet. Colin Ablack stepped back into the arena with his Camaro as
a wild card to the SKF/Tweety battle. The Showtime rail had a major
facelift and performed as well as it looked clocking a blistering 8.93secs, as it shot past Tweety Two. This
would tie them with SKF's amazing run with Tweety at the last meet clocking a similar time. However SKF did make an official run of a faster 8.92secs prior. It was a good year for racing and a great year for
race fans.
The last drag meet for the year was not a disappointment. The one ironic
surprise is that even with all the technological innovations in motor
sports this year, the cars that dominated the final event were mostly
Ford's, which took wins in 4 of the 7 categories, and placing second
in one. Imagine that!
TriniTuner.com
took an active part in T&T's motor sport, going as far away as Martinique
to cover events. The TriniTuner 120Y challenged all comers as did the
EVO IV, which surprised everyone with its victories against its bigger
brothers, the EVO VI. TriniTuner took the initiative to start an online
automotive forum. We brought out the first of many T-shirts when we
introduced TriniTuner Gear. This year, we have reported on 45 events
and brought you feature articles on both tweaked and showroom rides.
Not forgetting that we received international recognition when we were
featured in the year end issue of Sport Compact Car Magazine. We've
gone all out just for you and we've enjoyed every minute of it - next
year will bring more of the same, except it will be bigger and better,
with more bang for your buck. We will be adding many more features and
more ways for you to win prizes and even cash. So stay Tuned In and
Turned On in 2001. The biggest unanswered question for 2000 still remains:
"Who is Uncle Bob?"
Last
Sunday the motor sports fans in heaven saw to it that there was no rain
so that the event went ahead with out any down pour. Race fans turned
out in the thousands to witness what promised to be a day full of action.
This is what we saw.
