Solodex
V - Clash of the Titans
- Thrilling Match-ups Expected!!!
The
excitement promises to be high as Creative Auto Recreational Sports
(CARS) hosts its fifth SoloDex Championship event today (Sunday 10th
September 2000), at the Arima Race Club car park venue. With four of
the six events in the 2000 Championship already completed, the race
in each class is much too close to call, and all competitors within
striking distance of winning their class will be applying their keenly
refined driving techniques - Slow-in Fast-out, Early Braking, Late Apexing,
and others - to keep the rest of the competition in their wake.
In
the fastest class, EP (P meaning Prepared), which sees competition from
the well equipped and higher powered cars such as Mitsubishi Evolutions,
Subaru Imprezas and Mazdas AWD Turbos, the current Class leader Roger
Williams driving his highly modified Toyota Corolla SR5, will be seeking
to hold onto, or extend his points lead over Rawle Mahabir driving his
Shell Sponsored Mazda AWD Turbo. Rawle had the fastest-time-of-the-day
in SoloDex I & II and will certainly have Roger looking over his
shoulder as the day's competition progresses.
In
the next fastest class, ESP (SP meaning Street Prepared), in which cars
with some degree of modifications compete, leader Cristian Bourne driving
his Honda Civic with CVT (Continuous Variable Transmission) will attempt
to fend off Ryan Pinheiro who will be piloting his Peugeot 205 GTI.
This class is quite keenly contested, and both Cristian and Ryan will
have to continue to drive at their best in other to fend off the challenges
of several newcomers competing in their Honda Civic SiRs and modified
Lancers. The battle in this class will definitely be something to see.
In
the ES Class (S meaning Stock), factory stock cars like Toyota Corollas,
Suzuki Balenos and Honda Civics (non VTEC) will be competing for honours
as they produce phenomenal times under the keen guidance of their drivers.
Class leader Shaun Mohammed in his Toyota Corolla will square off against
very close challengers Graeme Hutchinson in his Suzuki Baleno and Barry
Mykoo in his Civic hatchback. This is going to be an exciting battle
as these evenly matched cars will be taken to their three-wheeled limit,
as their drivers use their best driving skills and driving techniques
to out-do the others.
In
the largest subscribed class, the HS class, the current leader by being
unable to make the event, has left the door wide open for second and
third positioned female competitors Alicia Mc Kenzie and Helga Crosby,
who are close on his heels. But the girls know not to get too comfortable
as Gerard Dial in his Chevy Joy and Wayne Hutchinson with his Ford Laser
have been eyeing that top spot
Competition
in the full sedan GS class, will also be quite exciting on the day,
as class leader Nishard Mohammed driving his Nissan Laurel will be closely
watching second positioned Anson Eccles as he pilots his Nissan SSS
Bluebird. These full sedans have been the source of much entertainment
(and fun for their drivers) in past SoloDexes, with their somewhat heavy
weights frequently causing spin outs as their drivers enthusiastically
attempt to negotiate the fastest times through the courses.
