Suzuki Challenge Series: Round 2

With two race wins apiece, Ryan Peyrau (Trinidad & Tobago) and Stuart Maloney (Barbados) are the new leaders of the Swift Cup and SR3 Cup, following yesterday’s (May 17) second round of the Suzuki Challenge Series at Bushy Park Barbados. The Swift Cup has now risen to a 12-car grid, while both entry lists included new names.

On this Friday night, the Center of Excellence, Macoya came alive with the sound of braaaaappp. And if I were to sum up the crowd turn out, I will have to twist Erphaan Alves Bumper like Rain chorus to “whey all dem people does come from daddy!”

Skinner Park came alive on Sunday 2nd May, 2015, with the sound of old school music, but more importantly, it was the location of HOTT 93 v8 car show. From as early as 9am, cars and patrons alike lined up outside to get into one of the biggest car events for 2015. Classic car attractions included icons such as the Austin Mini Cooper, Ferrari 308 GTS, Volkswagen Beetle, Jaguar Mark II and Corolla KE70 wagon, among countless other well-kept driving treasures.

Fresh and still buzzing from victory at Rally Trinidad just over a month ago the duo continue to gel and look more comfortable in the newly acquired Mitsubishi Evolution 8.

Jamaica’s Jeff Panton and Mike Fennell Jnr laid down a marker for next month’s LIME King of the Hill and Sol Rally Barbados, with victory in yesterday’s (April 19) Barbados Rally Club (BRC) Shakedown Stages. In the Rubis / Total / Sandals Barbados Ford Focus WRC06, they finished more than 18 seconds up on Trinidad’s John Powell, with Roger Skeete third, having fought back after early problems.

Even for the ‘test and tune’ Saturday competition was stiffer than stiff with their second installment of the AWD Shootout at Camden. Competitor turnout reflected that a $3000.00 cash prize was more than enough incentive to get them to come out and try their hand at this dial-up competition thing.

This Event clearly showed that we are getting back into our groove of staging highly entertaining events, smoothly executed to finality, where winners are declared in every Class contested. And this time around final two competitors were able to enjoy racing for a best two in three to determine the winner.

Though not as popular as most other forms of motorsport locally, the Trinidad and Tobago Power Boat Association hosts Regattas throughout the year just as any other motorsport body. For the year 2015 there are 5 events carded, that is 4 regattas with the 5th event being the more popular and hyped Carib Great Race.

The two new ‘one-make’ Championships – the Swift Cup and SR3 Cup – were the feature events at the Valvoline Glassesco John ‘Tiny’ Harrison Memorial Race Meet, organised by Bushy Park Motor Sports Inc.
