The Trinidad and Tobago Off Road Club held its first extreme 4×4 competition for the year on the 15th August. This event took place at Herring’s Quarry located at Grant Road, Rousillac and was open to competitors from both the Trailblazers and TTORC. Since the skies had dumped rain in the morning, the course posed a great challenge with all the mud and slush. Over ten Suzukis, a lone Nissan Patrol, and V8 powered Hilux each set out to try and finish the technical course with the least amount of time.
However the course proved difficult as the various ruts, steep slopes and the 3.5 foot deep mud pit took a toll on the vehicles. Most of the 4×4’s were stuck at some point and James Mosely of Ironman4×4 was summoned with his Mattracks equipped Ford Ranger to perform recovery operations. Nothing stopped the tracked Ranger, it plowed through the course without effort, even to pull out the V8 Hilux that was stuck.
The day was indeed fun for both spectators and competitors alike and despite only the top three drivers actually finishing the course, trophies and prizes were awarded to all entrants for their participation in the event.
