Sheldon Bissessar is officially the fastest Trinidadian on the planet. In fact he is also the fastest human being in the World among IHRA competitors in the Top Dragster category. His current time record is 5.68s @ 238mph and speed record is 5.78s @ 242mph in a class that regularly runs a 6-second pass. It is for this reason that even the Top Fuel and Injected Nitro class competitors often make their way to the line any time Sheldon lines up for a potential record-breaking pass. With the help of his sponsors Methanex, The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Trinidad & Tobago, PSTL, Total Lubricants, RJB Contractors, Mojo’s and others, Sheldon Bissessar and crew chief Aaron Sipple of ASE Engineering and Ironman Chassis, have earned the respect of thousands of American racing fans. This has been achieved through Aaron’s high level of racecar building and preparation, careful tuning before and at the track and with Sheldon’s superb reflexes and fearless and unbridled driving abilities that have been well-proven in Trinidad, the region and all over the USA.
Tv6 Sport Joel Villafana initiated the tv6 Viewers Choice Sporting Personality Award back in 2008 which saw a photo finish, with Olympic silver medallist Richard Thompson edging former T&T cricket Captain Daren Ganga. Ganga reigned supreme in 2009, with commonwealth silver medallist boxer Tariq Haqq taking the top honour in 2010. What makes this award unique is that it is decided entirely by you the fans. The nominees are chosen through sporting accomplishments and personality and are put out there for the fans to decide their winner.
The votes are cast via text messaging. 2413 votes were cast during this month of December. Here’s the breakdown: in fifth place, with 35 votes which is 1% of the total entries is Kenwyne Jones. In 4th place with 125 votes, equalling 5% is Lendl Simmons. In 3rd place with 325 votes or 13%, it’s Kelly Ann Baptiste. In 2nd place with 429 votes, making 18% of the total is Anisa Mohammed. That means your 2011 tv6 Viewers Choice Sporting Personality is Sheldon Bissessar with a whopping 1499 votes! That is 62% of the total, more votes than the other 4 nominees combined. It’s about time. This is the most consistent sportsman we have in Trinbago and he is finally receiving the recognition he deserves. He should be sportsman of the year every year. This man gets nothing AT ALL by the ministry of sport yet still he flies his Trini flag with pride. That is loyalty beyond compare Well done Sheldon. You the the ONLY true sportsman we have here!
