B16/b20 build

Postby Advent » May 2nd, 2015, 7:51 am

Good say fellas, kinda new to this Honda thing, just have some concerns and would like your replies on the matter, so I bought a ek4 sir with a b16 head and b20 block, was told by the owner it has some aftermarket parts in it head gasket etc, it is automatic as I work in POS and a manual car wouldn't cut it,

So my question is I've read online the b20 block is only good up to 6300t8pm while the b16 head would swing to 8000rpm, which can cause issues for the block as it wasn't designed to hit to high rpms.

Should I have any concerns ? This is a daily driver and I would like to floor d car from time to time , I don't mean dropping into a gear and running it out then shifting into drive eh. I know VTEC comes on at 5500rpm, so should I have any worries with this automatic b16 /b20 , guys calling it a Frankenstein.

Yes there are some concerns
1. Engine running lean with the stock ECU and injectors.
2. Detonation/Knock will kill engine very fast.
3. Rod bolts are the weak spot failure after 7800.
4. Did they shave head to raise compression ?

So I talk to the guy (old guy built it himself) he said I could install a wideband and if it is running lean install an external regulator . but he doesn't see any evidence of running lean, next he did mention to don't rev it out and that if I press out it changes at 7500 so I should be good their ( I would do block work later on) next he said he used the higher compression b20 block (9:5) I think. What's your suggest on going forward and keeping this engine safe, it is a fun drive , feels like an sr20 lol
