That's a new engine. You really should be using the thinnest oil as indicated in your manual, not the thickest. My guess is 10W30 or 5W30 is what should be used.
This has been discussed many times, so do a search.
Benefits of a thinner oil - less sludging, more power, better fuel economy, faster revving of the engine.
A common issue with too thick an oil is sticking of the vvt solenoid.

100k isnt old either, neither is 5 yrs.. give the 10w-30 a run (or 5w-30 , its the same thing under our conditions) and then see how you feel..
Big Z and I agree 100% on this topic and it has been discussed over and over ad nausea.

^ almost any decent brand name oil will do the job, its just a matter of which brand u prefer
what u need to say however is the

age/mileage of the engine (average)
what oil and viscosity u using presently
is it burning off
do you have any oil leaks

Anyone thought of using an additive in their oil to help control lubricity and viscosity under extreme heat?

OK ... did an oil change this weekend. Switched to Royal Purple 10W30 with an RP Extended drain oil filter. Did some reearch and was interested in the Synerlec additive package in RP so decided to give it a try.

First off the engine is less buzzy than before especially at idle on startup, not surprising since I was using RedLine before and RL is known to make engines sound louder. Noted that it was not as quiet as Mobil 1 but then I was running the wrong weight - 15W50.

Initial drive on hiway felt very good, engine revs free and actually is getting quieter ... engine feels a tad stronger .... power comes on a little better causing a downshift whereas before the car would just build speed in the same gear. I'm not expecting any great differences and the oil will probably need 2-3000 kms for the additive package to work in well. Intending to run this oil for 10000kms.

While some of the benefits of RP is lower operating temp and better mileage not sure if I'll notice them. I have a fully functional thermostat so my engine operating temp will be fixed. As for mileage I will check this at the pump, however, since I'm not running a fixed test loop this may not provide any useful information.

I liked the purple color of the oil, made it easy to check oil level, unlike the Redline which is extremely clear and hard to see on the dipstick. Unfortunately the color has almost gone and the RP is also a very clear oil.

Some of the things I wouldn't be able to notice is engine cleanliness and wear protection, so I think I'll keep a sample for a UOA.

Well that's it for now, will update between 2-3000kms

If you've "noticed" this:

engine revs free and actually is getting quieter ... engine feels a tad stronger ....

...then I don't see why not.

^^ well as far as temp goes when the engine reaches operating temp the gauge will just stay at the normal mid-mark. Unless I have a digital temp gauge like the Engine Watchdog TM2 that Crism is selling really don't know how I'll notice this.

The mileage issue.... well my daily route, use of ac, time in traffic varies so too much. But I'm still gonna see what happens at the pump

ok... I did 402km on 36 litres ... which works out to 26mpg

What I do is let the tank fill up until the pump automatically cuts off. I stop refuelling so I can use this as a rough standard .... hopefully I'm filling the tank to the same point every time. This allows me to determine fuel used .... not strictly scientific but it's the best I can do.

Will see how another tank goes about 1000kms from now

Well there are two types of Edge in the US now..

Originally there was castrol syntec (black bottle) and edge (gold bottle)

Now, they have updated the line to be both called edge..

Edge with Synthetic is basically just the old synthec in a new bottle..

Edge with titanium is a ridiculous marketing name for what was originally known as edge..

If it is the titanium one, then $300 is a decent price.. If it is regular castrol syntec you can do much better
