Here is the law as it is written in the motor vehicles act
30. (1) Every motor vehicle or trailer manufactured after 1960 shall be fitted with directional indicators on either side of the front and rear of such vehicle, and every indicator shall be so designed and fitted that—
(a) it emits an amber light to the front and red or amber light to the rear;
(b) it flashes at sixty to one hundred and twenty times a minute;
(c) it shall not be more than one hundred and fifty five millimeters measured horizontally from the outermost point of the side of the body immediately behind the driver’s seat.
(2) Additional direction indicators may be fitted at the sides of the motor vehicle.
As far as I understand it, the light must flash amber in front and can be amber or red in the rear.
As long as your bulb flashes amber in front then there should not be a problem.
As long as it flashes amber, it does not make any difference what color it is when switched off.
That is as far as I understand it.
