Camshafts & Vernier pulleys

Postby plex » February 3rd, 2005, 11:50 pm

Checking out some products and i see Vernier pulleys, they say this is adjustable for the setting for the valve timing. Mean what??? Do the camshafts and Vernier pulleys must be used togtheir?

Adjustable cam gear, using a vernier scale , like that found on a vernier caliper. nothing special.

Piper is a popular aftermarket supplier as Plex said. Best known for their camshafts. Lots of applications on the older English Fords and BMC's.

actually some Bimmers uses these pulleys, so it was popular with the euros ,in terms of horsepower gains is something i would like to see..what i see from magazine they claim you get 16- 25HP more..depending on the type of engine etc..

Cam gears might not give so much power unless you're exploiting upgraded cams. On a stock engine cam gears usually serve to shift the powerband around.

Jimbo, agree, to get the HP gain also involues upgrading the cam, those stock cams would not do the job..
