RB20DET CAM & CAM GEAR UPGRADE

Postby edelbrock » February 8th, 2005, 6:00 pm

Gentlemen,
Good to be amongst such knowledgeable company again.

Have a slightly technical question for you…….I have read varying opinions on installing the RB20DE (nonturbo) cams on the RB20DET engine. Apparently it has longer duration but the same lift. This means that the same valve springs can be used. I have a bunch of DE engines and a daily driver with a RB20DET engine. I have also recently bought a pair of Tomei adjustable cam gears that will work on RB20/25/26 engines.
Can anyone suggest the proper method of varying the timing on the intake and exhaust gears to get the most of the cam replacement. Is adjustment made on the intake cam gear first? Is the gear retarded first or advanced?
If anyone has done a similar upgrade or had any experience using the DE cams on the DET, please lets talk. Would really like to postpone the dynotesting until all parts are on the car.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you
