WTK: Dashboard Repair

Postby medalist » July 26th, 2014, 5:55 pm

I got a small scratch on my dashboard. I will like to know if there is any easy fix for this.

Suggestions?

Can't just touch up the paint with colour matched paint from an auto paint shop? You just have to buy the smallest quantity that they are willing to mix.

What vehicle is that anyway? A BT-50 or Ranger?

If the panel can be removed then you can repaint the entire thing with a duplicolor or rustoleum textured spray.

Dont really want to remove that part of the dash, the scrape has a slight dig in it also. It is a BT50. Was thinking to try a very smooth emery to sand it then put the paint as you suggested, but will this look off or will it blend back like original

No quick fix will get it looking good IMHO.

If you lightly rub that portion only and touch paint it then there will be a discrepancy in the finish.

While the panel may not have a very noticeable texture, it is textured finished (matte with probably a very light grain). If you sand and paint then that portion will no longer have that finish.

Is it possible to use a heat gun and a texture pad to repair the defect?
I also saw some videos some time ago where the person used krazy glue to fill the crevice and then used some interior automotive dye to colour match it.
