Can anyone tune Weber Side Drafts?

Postby MTX » October 27th, 2016, 9:20 am

I just setup twin side drafts on a B11. The carbs were rebuild, but they don't idle. It revs and idles only on higher RPM. I would appreciate any advise. Thank you.

Vacuum leak from around the carb? Where it assembled and joins gaskets.

Last night I pulled them off & replaced all the gaskets, so I'm pretty sure they are sealed, but thank you for your response. I do appreciate it.

Does it have an idle screw adjustment? Air fuel mixture probably too lean.

Each barrel has it's own mixture screw. Both carbs are in sync, so there is only one idle screw. If I turn it up a bit it would idle high. Once I rev it it would stay at a high RPM, then I would have to back out the idle screw. When I do that it wouldn't idle. I'm out of ideas

Try adjusting the idle without the x cable attached. Check the throttle to see if t sticking.

One more check to make sure the carb not warped, while you have it idling high spray some wd40 AROUND the carb at the gaskets and see if it makes a difference. If it pulling in any from the sides well there's your idle issue.

I checked and it's not pulling in anything. I put back up the original carb & manifold and it runs normal. Do you think the valves need to be adjusted? It's not making noticeable noise, but just a thought.

I didn't install the throttle cable just yet and the it seems to go all the way back.

Hmm well from my experience with our 280c, it used to rough idle because it was pulling air from between the gasket. Low idle was rough cutting off at times in traffic. Sigh. The fuel bowl level on the mark?

Yip so far everything on the mark, but I did notice that the gasket between the intake and head is a bit thick than it use to be, so I think i will try making a gasket with a thinner material and try it again. Thank you again for your help.
