ae100 transmission problem

Postby dorgy » April 18th, 2015, 1:00 pm

Transmission is automatic and no matter if in l or 2 or d I can only get first gear reverse works fine.
At d end of first gear engine rpm drops as if it it going into second gear but then spikes and remain in first gear
When I got d car I was told the clutches need changing as reverse gear now and den never engaged unless I revved d engine and sometimes I had to do d same to get it out of first gear only wen engine was fully warmed up.
Recently I would smell somting burning only wen I drove up a steep hill but it would disappear quickly. The tranny oil and filter was clean but still changed both but problem still exist. Wondering if its the torque converter or solenoids or if the tranny needs rebuilding. Any advice?

Could be the torque converter. BUT
make sure fluids are GOOD!
WITH ENGINE COLD! start the car and DO NOT rev it..check the dipstick, it should be on the TOP mark. (wipe it first)
And make sure its TRANSPARENT CLEAN RED!!!. NOting PINK, NOTHING BLACK... MAKE SURE ITS GOT NO shavings in it ...if u do, drain pan, get a NEW filter and a magnet to put on the under pan, so it pics up ALL shavings, and see if it works : D

This might be a long shot. BUT jack all four sides of car and spin the wheels i know it sounds funny BUT if theres resistant in the wheels it means that its being jammed by brakes or something. i seen it happened

I think your solenoids needs servicing. Take that to a transmission specialist.

Tranny not upshifting.

This thread has some numbers for various transmission places.
