4wd B14 to Fwd

Postby Omaritech2 » May 11th, 2011, 12:50 am

Hey guys, have a quick question, i have a 97 4WD B14. The auto tranny died. Is there a simple way to convert to fwd? Using a fwd tranny? What about cross member and mounts?

You should be able to remove the awd transmission and put in a fwd easily using the fwd mounts bolt for bolt as if was manufactured fwd.
As for the diff you will have to unbolt it from the rear "banjo" and you will be able to run freely.

Thanks for the reply, but what about cross member, 4wd does not carry a cross member like the front wheel drive b14. Engine bay setup like the GTI-R, with the front mount that bolts on to radiator panel.

Also, i know it does not carry the traditional sub frame, the bottom arms are bolted directly to body, would i be able to put on a FWD sub frame (cradle) and use normal setup, are bolts holes still there?

The bolt holes should be there to install a cross member. The b14 was built with a lot of thought put into it. If not you should be able to bolt it on, it will be easy to create an area to bolt it minor fabrication.
As for the subframe im not sure..
