I like how the RAV4 makes a nice pathway between the airbags for you to hit the dashboard.

Good observation. IIHS said, 'During the crash, the dummy's head barely contacted the airbag before sliding off to the left as the steering column moved to the right. The seat belt allowed the dummy to move too far forward, as is evident from the gap between the seat back and the dummy's torso."

Now after watching the damage that can be had with a small overlap crash versus the medium overlap. .. How many people are now thinking it is safer to crash with more of the vehicle. ....
Please avoid the accident .

Maybe this might justify the high price tag?? Safety costs.

Good point. If only we could fix errant drivers, cuz cars don't crash themselves.

The Hyundai Elantra dash on the 2014 facelift has been 'upgraded', they moved the A/C vents up to where they belong. More toys too, from chrome handles to LED tail-lights, from touch-screen head-unit with reverse cam to LED door sills. It even has rear A/C vents.

Actually yes. Took a test drive on Saturday. Considering buying one for my son. Missed the facelift by a few months. Need to trade-in the PCZ. :)

Rav4 should not be over $300K not worth it... a couple thousand again and could get a Santa Fe.

Indeed. It seems that a lot of the local favorites are doing the same, cerato, versa etc...

A real shame how easily new cars are turned to wrecks.

Interestingly, just be aware that a lot of the cars sold in Trinidad would fair a lot worse than seen in the IIHS small overlap test post above. All of those cars tested above are equipped with side curtain airbags which from what I've read are essential in this type of accident. It may be changing now but, there are still a lot that still lack them.

Cars that went under major redesigns before the small overlap test had a bit of an advantage as they were able to take this accident into account when designing the vehicle. Though, doesn't take any credit away from the manufacturers as we now have safer cars.

To give Subaru some extra credit, this is not the first time that the Forester has stood out in a new IIHS crash test. When the Institute first rated small SUVs for side protection in 2003, the Subaru model performed the best and was one of only two to earn good ratings.

Interesting the Mazda CX-5 got a rating of marginal on all models built before November 2013. They did some tweaking and made some improvements now with the newest model receiving a rating of Good.

What I've found sad is you have to buy the 'hi-spec' models to get the safety packages - 6+ air bags, traction control, stability control (ESC/ESP), EBD, brake assist, etc. Why??
Even the new features like Lane Departure Warning aren't even available unless you buy something German.
Also, many compact sedans are touted as 'family cars' yet they are the least equipped as far as safety is concerned.

If you drive a family car how a family car is meant be driven in our weather (no ice/snow) all the passive systems are unnecessary. The airbags would be nice tho.
Also a lot of those things are optional abroad too.

More safety features can never be a bad thing. Being in an accident does not mean you were necessarily doing something wrong. Someone else could easily hit you during your normal driving.

j.o.e you forgot about rain, slick road conditions and idiot drivers. Lets put it this way, when a woman in a RAV4 on a wet and gravely pulled across my path and stopped without warning cuz of a pothole, it was all those ACTIVE systems in my Grand Vitara, namely the EBD, ESP/TC, that prevented me from skidding and slamming into her. My ACTIVE systems negated the need for the deployment of the airbags and all other PASSIVE systems.

My foot braking system cannot apply brakes faster than 3 times a second.
