2012 rule changes - lower nose


"In order to increase safety, for 2012 the FIA has decided to lower the height of the car's front section, primarily to lessen the chance of one's car's nose intruding into the cockpit of another in the event of a side-on collision. As can be seen in this diagram, the height of the chassis immediately ahead of the cockpit can still be up to 625mm above the reference plane (PR), but then in the space of 150mm it must fall to 550mm. This is expected to lead to some rather awkward-looking, stepped-nose designs on the 2012 cars"

not really a fan of the 'platypus' nose. Glad to see Mclaren didn't go down that road. No more blown diffusers so hopefully redbull won't run away with everything again. Really looking forward to this season; it's time the silver cars start dominating once more.

The way that car looks, they BETTER be winning something. They have an interesting aperature design behind/above the airbox though, I'm wondering if that's downforce or cooling.

Yup... and Button was more consistent for McLaren last season. Let's hope Hamilton sorts out his personal issues (and brings back his Dad as Manager). He needs piece of mind and greater focus if he expects to get better results this year.

^^ Glad to see someone else giving JB his due, he really is a model for smooth driving. I think Mclaren really do have the best team currently, in terms of team as well as drivers. Lewis is the ultra aggressive all or nothing driver, and Jenson is the laid back, planning consistent calculator. I hope Mclaren get the car right this season, so those two can start battling; would be interesting to see which driving style wins out in the end.

^ ^ ^ Hamilton and Button have driving styles that are just like the old Makinen and Burns of the WRC.

If McLaren has a consistent, competitive car this year, my money is on Hamilton.

^^Lewis has more aggression, that's for sure. But what Button lacks in aggression he delivers marvelously in consistency and tyre sparing capacity - that's why I think Mclaren are so complete as a team. Really excited for this season to start, but if I were to choose for anything qualifying-esque, it would definitely be Hamilton.

2 venues of tuning and driver's familiarity wiyh the 2012 cars.
dack to the drawing boards for some with structural integrity, fine tuning for some.
really can't wait for the season opener, it's the only time i use my telly.
