Hate Ferrari all you want, at least they are not as hypocritical as the other teams when it comes to saying that Racer X is Number 1 and Racer Y is Number 2 in the team.

Felipe, Fernando's faster than you...Do you understand?

hey guy's , F1 IS AN ENTERTAINMENT SHOW, why are your panties getting all twisted.

a good driver takes a lesser vehicle and wrings it out to and surpassing it's limits

dont really think there are really any 'lesser' cars this season. that's why this season is so much fun to watch. cars seem to be unreliable to the end unlike season before where they would show flaws before halfway into the race.

Romain Grosjean put the seal on an impressive test at Mugello for his Lotus team by going fastest on the final afternoon.

His best - a one minute 21.035 second lap set with two hours of the afternoon to run was the quickest any driver managed across the three days.
The Frenchman had also topped the second day of running at the Italian circuit, Lotus having opted to alter plans and give him both days of testing following the day one washout.
Sebastian Vettel's morning best was enough to keep him second for Red Bull, less than one tenth of a second ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso.
The Spaniard had set the early running in a Ferrari featuring revisions to its exhaust exits and rear bodywork, but an hour in he went off and nudged the wall at Turn 12, leading to delays of more than two hours for the Scuderia.
Toro Rosso's Daniel Ricciardo closed to within a quarter of a second of Alonso in the afternoon, ending the day fourth fastest.
Sergio Perez finished six tenths of a second down the road in fifth, having triggered one of several red flags on the final day when his Sauber stopped on the main straight at the exit of the pitlane.
Nico Hulkenberg, taking over from Paul di Resta for the final afternoon, was less than one tenth of a second slower in sixth.
Di Resta was initially tucked up behind his Force India stable-mate, but late improvements from Pastor Maldonado, Oliver Turvey and Nico Rosberg forced him down to 10th.
Rosberg (Mercedes) set new bests on his final two tours to jump into eighth, 0.082s behind Maldonado's Williams.
Turvey meanwhile completed a low-key test for McLaren, which opted not to run either of its two race drivers, by finishing ninth ahead of Heikki Kovalainen and Timo Glock.
Kovalainen was the busiest driver of the day, completing 138 laps in the Caterham.
1. Romain Grosjean (Lotus-Renault) 1:21.035
2. Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull-Renault) 1:21.267 + 0.232s

[img]McLaren to give car a nose job
Wed, 09 May 11:51:00 2012

McLaren boss Martin Whitmarsh says the team is likely to switch to the new high nose design it trialled on the final afternoon of in-season testing at Mugello.

The new nose is far higher at the front than the original design, and features significantly longer pillars - effectively bringing it far closer to the stepped designs used by the rest of the field.
While McLaren only trialled the high nose in the final hours at Mugello, Whitmarsh said during a Vodafone phone-in on Wednesday that the team would run the design again in Barcelona, and that it was reasonable to expect it to remain on the car for the race.
"There's a reasonable chance we will see it on Sunday, which will be the first time our drivers experience it," Whitmarsh said.
"We got a lot of feedback from Mugello, so we have the data to set it up and can find the performance on track."
Asked about the philosophy behind the new design, Whitmarsh said the higher nose helped manage the airflow directed to the rear of the car.
"Classically of course you are looking for lower drag and higher downforce, but be aware that nowadays incremental improvements are generally modest," he said.
"In the case of the nose and front wing the attachment pylons are quite different and there are other subtle differences.
"You are managing the airflow that is enjoyed by the rest of the car. Nowadays, in quite a critical part of the car you are looking to find very small improvements. [There are] a lot of restrictions around the back end of the car, so you generate more improvement by managing the flow that arrives there than by developing the rear itself."
Whitmarsh said he expected McLaren to prove competitive once again after its poor showing in Bahrain, but said it was impossible to be fully confident given how competitive 2012 has proved.
"I believe we will be competitive in Spain and going forward, but you don't know what other teams are going to do," he said. "I think great thing about this sport is you can never been fully confident you understand everything.
"[We] have a car clearly able to be on front row in each of the first four races and therefore the pace is inherently there. We are working to continuously develop the car, but you can never be confident that other teams won't up their game and give you harder time.
"We had an interesting data gathering test at Mugello, and we will see at Barcelona but we expect to put that knowledge to good use."

F1 legend sides with Michael Schumacher: Pirelli tires are dangerous

(CNN) -- When Jackie Stewart speaks about driver safety in Formula One, it's worth listening. The racing legend was a pioneer in raising standards in an era when mortality rates were high, and his legacy has left F1 stars with greater support than ever before.
But he is still worried about one burning issue -- the controversy over sole supplier Pirelli's tires, which he says are dangerous due to their rapid rate of degradation.
The three-time world champion told CNN that drivers risked a "multiple-car accident" unless immediate improvements are made.
"I don't think that amount of rubber should be coming off the tires and be left to the side of the track," the 72-year-old said.
"If you go over that rubber it then sticks to the terribly hot -- above 100C (212F) -- tires.
"When you get to the next corner your car is now totally unstable, and when you're going to brake you'll probably lose control of your car. If there's a car close to you then that will cause a multiple-car accident -- it has to be improved."

[img]Gray Matter: Teamwork key for Lotus
By Eurosport | Will Gray – 1 hour 41 minutes ago

Email
Lotus' double podium finish at the last race in Bahrain demonstrated the team's potential — so with Barcelona claimed to be their 'perfect track' can the team go one better and win?
It's looking good for Lotus right now. Victory was in their sights at Bahrain, where they scored their first double podium since 2006; in last week's Mugello test, they topped the times on days two and three; and, according to the team, the next circuit on the calendar, Barcelona, is what their car was made for.
In the first four races, the E20 machine has proven to be strong on all types of circuit, stable and predictable to drive and consistent in terms of set-up direction. Its only slight deficiency is in low-speed traction and, at times, cooler temperatures.
That does indeed suggest Barcelona should be favourable for them, as long as the weather plays ball.
The team made further progress in Mugello, working on suspension development, but perhaps most importantly they were able to establish a clear baseline set-up - something they had previously been struggling to do — and that will give a valuable time saving on race weekends given the limited running available.
The next new parts will come in Friday practice, including some new delicate aerodynamic parts and changes to the front wing and the floor.
But alongside this constant development, it is the early formation of a strong team bond that has given the team the biggest potential to shine.
The driver line-up this year was a bit of a gamble. Kimi Raikkonen had been out of F1 for two years and his commitment and the reasons for his comeback went under intense scrutiny. Romain Grosjean, meanwhile, had a brief stint racing in 2009 but is effectively still a rookie.
In his first F1 term, Raikkonen never really showed true leadership qualities, but in the short time since his return it appears that his rejection from Ferrari and subsequent time in the wilderness trying to work out what he really wanted to do has matured him well.
The team is clearly benefitting from his experience and his new positive motivation but, more than that, the driver known as 'the Ice Man' appears to have bonded with his team-mate and the two sides of the garage, according to the team, have an excellent working relationship, with Raikkonen valued for his championship-winning experience and Grosjean playing the role of the master's apprentice but feeding in his own views having quickly developed a good understanding for the car.
In Barcelona, that team play will be extra important.
The Spanish circuit is a fickle place, extremely sensitive to wind and temperature — and in this season's extremely tight lead group, being able to learn and predict how the car will respond to wind changes over the course of a session is more critical than ever.
Although Sebastian Vettel managed to win in Barcelona from second on the grid last year, that was the only time the race has not been won from pole position in the last decade. The arrival of DRS changed things a little, making overtaking easier - but the top grid spot is still more valuable here than at other tracks.
And this is where Lotus need to do some work.
So far their best grid position has been third for Grosjean in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, followed by a fourth and two sixths. On average, they have been around 0.54s off the pace.
This weekend, then, on a track that should suit them and with a strong baseline to build from, the importance of getting qualifying right could not be clearer.
And if they can finally get on the front row, then a black and gold winner could be a realistic possibility.[/img]

Hamilton blows away field to take pole

Lewis Hamilton produced a scintillating lap to take pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.

Hamilton blew the field away with his final effort - a 1:21.707 - which was almost six-tenths clear of his nearest challenger, and sealed the 150th pole position of McLaren's Formula One history.
The best of the rest was Pastor Maldonado, who surprised everyone by topping Q2 and taking his place on the front row for Williams.
Fernando Alonso briefly gave the Spanish crowd hope that he could put the Ferrari on pole position, but had to settle for third in a furious competition for top spot at the death, after a sedate opening.
The strong-looking Lotus pairing of Romain Grosjean and Kimi Raikkonen took fourth and fifth respectively, ahead of Sauber's Sergio Perez, while the winners of the last two races, Nico Rosberg and Sebastian Vettel, could only take 7th and 8th.
Michael Schumacher and Kamui Kobayashi, neither of whom set lap times in Q3, rounded out the top 10.
Two intriguing sessions of qualifying had threatened to peter out into an anticlimactic final shoot-out, with a cloud hovering over the Circuit de Catalunya and reducing the track temperature.
Only Hamilton and Rosberg set a time in the first nine minutes of the session, but with seven teams all believing they had a shot at pole position, eight racers went out late for one last run.
What made Hamilton's lap so remarkable was that there had been so little to separate the teams and the drivers before that point. He did have a scare, however, having to stop the car on his in-lap having been told by his team there was a problem with the car. In parc ferme conditions there will be no scope to address any issues, so it remains to see whether Hamilton will be affected on the race day.
But with the smallest of errors punished from the outset in qualifying, Hamilton's team-mate Jenson Button, who had been complaining of understeer throughout qualifying, missed out on the shoot-out altogether, only ending 11th.
Mark Webber, last year's pole-sitter, was also caught out in Q2 having been told by his team his lap was good enough to advance, only to see the Saubers and Maldonado surge past to leave him 12th
And Felipe Massa's struggles in the Ferrari continued, with the Brazilian starting down in 17th.
Hamilton is ideally placed to win his first Grand Prix of the season at a track where 10 of the last 11 victors have begun from pole position, but with the season throwing up so many surprises already, the race still looks wide open.

Lewis Hamilton loses pole position for stopping car on track after qualification

Lewis Hamilton has been dramatically moved to the back of the grid for the Spanish Grand Prix after being excluded from today's qualifying session.

McLaren have been found guilty of a fuel irregularity under the current FIA technical regulations as Hamilton stopped on track after seemingly claiming the team's 150th pole in Formula One.
McLaren had cited force majeure and had hoped to remain on pole, but following a lengthy stewards' hearing the 27-year-old and the team have been handed a severe penalty.
A FIA statement read: "The stewards received a report from the race director (Charlie Whiting) which stated that during post-qualifying scrutineering a sample of fuel was required from car 4 (Hamilton).
"However, the car failed to return to the pits under its own power as required under article 6.6.2 of the FIA Formula One technical regulations.
"The stewards heard from the team representative, Mr Sam Michael, who stated that the car stopped on the circuit for reasons of force majeure.

"A team member had put an insufficient quantity of fuel into the car, thereby resulting in the car having to be stopped on the circuit in order to be able to provide the required amount for sampling purposes.
"As the amount of fuel put into the car is under the complete control of the competitor, the stewards cannot accept this as a case of force majeure.
"The stewards determine that this is a breach of article 6.2 of the FIA Formula One Technical Regulations and the competitor is accordingly excluded from the results of the qualifying session.
"The competitor is, however, allowed to start the race from the back of the grid."

Article 6.6.2

Competitors must ensure that a one litre sample of fuel may be taken from the car at any time during the Event.

Except in cases of force majeure (accepted as such by the stewards of the meeting), if a sample of fuel is required after a practice session the car concerned must have first been driven back to the pits under its own power.

FIA 2012 Regulations

Hamilton can't catch a break this season. I actually feel sorry for him.
