nothing from another mfg will just drop in, you will need some work done- so is that your question, how much work is required to make it fit?

however there will be a huge amount of cutting/welding & fabricating to make it work right.

check this thread, its been done on this bluebird 910.
oh; in case you do go this way, prepare for your wheels to be sticking out of your rear fenders so flares may be needed depending on how much or what tyre size you use.

did you know that nissan and mitsubishi signed a contract to supply trinidad with SR20, RB and CA18 powered box lancers?

i can bet there is a SR20 in this car or there are plans to install one so the S13 rear end will be a perfect match

i dont fancy the bracketing on original chassis, even with enforcements.....been there done that, and after rebuilding the chassis completely to work with the skyline diff in my van, that is everything built, designed, balanced and thought out on it, to make it look like it originally came independent was worth the wait. Feels wayyyyy better than my past cars i did that bracket up thing on. Handling is just amazing compared to it as well. Anyone have doubts, you can sit in it and feel it for yourself.

well i installed a RB20DET and i have a Datsun 720 diff to install, but ppl keep saying that it wont be able to take the pressure......so im a bit confused on which way to go. this is my first project so ima newb just looking for advice

dude, most guys in drag run 720 diffs, those are what men look for! easier swap too. I know most guys weld it up but it takes the jamming and works very good

yup,

if you break a 720 diff with a RB20DET stock then is either you bad lucky or that particualr diff was crap.

those 720 diffs are very strong and once welded right it will last forever and a day.

Hmmmmm well look at that and all this time i thinking i would have to sell back the 720 diff and get sumtin els......smh.

i'd get a competent machine shop to shorten a 720 rear end two inches from either end, cut and re-spline the axles (NOT WELD) and use this banjo, mostly with a welded rear end (i'd get the internals welded at a machine shop also to preserve rotational balance).
with the track shortened in the rear, no tire protrusion, and you can fit some 275 tires in there comfortably or slicks. i've seen the setup work and its impressive, launches are more predictable and repeatable than using the s13 rear end.

if you have the means, i've been reading that either 240/280zx diff internals can work in the 720 housing and are available via the aftermarket with lots of options.

one question doh is a welded diff suitable for everyday driving? seeing that both wheels would be spinning at the same speed round corners, parking in car parks, ect. although im modifyin my car its the only car i have so therefore it would be used on a daily basis.

you can use it for everyday but in the rain, take it easy, doh take chain up from men bcuz thats looking to spin out right thru and danger. Also some times it can be a problem in gravel like roads, like lets say you go by someone and their driveway is dirt and gravel, you might have a chance of sticking and just spinning out on the gravel

My Bird is welded cuz i dont do drugs (lsd) lol its fun 2 drive I drive mines everyday wit no probs every morning I go up maracus StJoseph via Maracus Royal road ( my little Touge run ) with ease . Mind u it also eats up tyres fast but other than that its normal .......

first project and a daily? leave it unwelded, at least for the while. a welded diff is disgusting in terms of drivability it drives though. just not pleasantly.

if racing isn't your main concern for now, no need to weld, you can always get another internals (~$600) and have it welded (~$200) on the side for whenever the need to experiment arises..or feel like entering camden for an event and want better hook-up.

it depends on what you want as Razcal said above.
if no intent to race/compete in any event on a monthly basis then leave open.

i would weld though, then again i just crazy like that.

@747 TECHNOLOGIES driving in the rain with a welded diff is one of my biggest concerns, i read that a lot of ppl lose control on wet roads with welded diffs.

@shadowbird sounds really nice but tires aint cheap man lol, i think what Razkal said with buying spare internals and having it welded is a good idea for me, sooo if i do intend to go drags or whatever i have it on standby.

mind you, you wont loose control and run off the road if wet just like that eh.
my Charmant (back in the day) had a welded diff and was my only car then.

once you take your time with it you will have no problem

Well you will lose control, IF you press it on wet roads, other than that, it drives fine in wet cruising and not pressing etc.

not too sure how it will handle the torque if left open, however they are pretty strong so that should not be a problem open or welded.

welding will just be for locking both wheels (better launch etc) diff is strong nonetheless
