What do you guys think about mixing tyre brands?
The MGF is supposed to run 195 15s in the front, and 205 15s rear, and the manufacturer specifies V rated tyres........actually the company used to specify ONLY Goodyear Eagle F1 GSDs when these cars were new (I suspect because how tail happy the car is)
I have fairly new V-rated Kumho Ecstas up front but I can't get the corresponding 205s for the rear. Mileage Mack has Toyo Proxes that will fit, and they are also V-rated........and no, I don't have the budget to ditch the fronts and just run 4 Proxes right now :(
I am leaning towards just buying the two Proxes tomorrow......

just do it
i for one dont like to mix brands for rotation purposes but in your case i would look for the stickiest 205s i can find and slap them on there as the orientation of that car mid engined and all

Should not be a problem as with the different sizes you'd only be rotating L to R anyway.

The only concern may be if the compounds are significantly different in their traction. That would make for some interesting handling characteristics.

Mg have a help thread

but yup run the proxies in the rear, they won't cause any harm.
i myself don't like mixing brands wrt tyres.

plus you can just buy a pair for the front when the wallet is ready.

lol @ moti
can't hurt to get some sensible advice.........I'll probably do just that...........change them one pair at a time.......the car barely gets used so uneven wear front to rear would be a non-issue

What about mixing thread patterns front and rear?
like having a pair of V pattern tires at the front with a pair of linear at the rear
Any limitations other than rotation options?

adjust driving style to suit
once you get used to the handling characteristics of the tyre shouldnt be any worries

Maxxis UA603 in front, Roadstone CP641 in back how many years now........ at least 3........... sigh.
I purchase tires by pairs, and have been doing so for over 10 years on multiple vehicles.

No problem there as long as the thread pattern, tire compound, threadware rating is not significantly different.

Maybe, though it was noted before treadwear is brand specific. And i disagree on the thread pattern. Tire size, and inflation are important too.

Maxxis UA-603 specs.
TW420 Temperature A Traction A (yet extremely grippy).

Roadstone Classe Premire 641
TW 400 Temperature A Traction A

The CP641 grips well on accelerating and cornering, especially in the wet.
However you need to avoid the brake pedal in the wet. It skates very quickly.

yeah i didnt mention tire size and inflation because i guess the OP would know that.
However i use dunlop direzza dz101 no complaints on that tire have it almost 2years and still going. Very grippy and pretty good on the wet and corners. threadware 300 traction A temp. A
