Arima Grand Prix 2011 - April 24th CANCELLED!

Postby Duane 3NE 2NR » April 10th, 2011, 11:40 pm

THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED
Stay tuned for further updates - the event may actually be postponed to another date.

Briefing meeting at Larry Gomes Stadium at 7pm Wednesday 13th April 2011
You must attend the briefing meeting if you plan to compete at this event.
Contact: Jameer Ali 680-2058 or Rawle Mahabir 680-8020

A Media Conference was held on Tuesday 5th April 2011 to announce the staging of the Arima Grand Prix, carded for Sunday 24th April 2011. This is the Brainchild of the Hon. Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, and M.P. for Dabadie / O’Meara, the Hon. Anil Roberts. And this will be staged in and around the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima. The Event Chairman, Jameer Ali, has been able to pull together a cross-section of Motor Sport lovers, with the Event being coordinated by the MotorSport Association of Trinidad and Tobago (MATT).

Image

The Management Committee members of the various Motor Sport affiliates of MATT will all be playing an active part in ensuring the success of the Event. Racing will see Circuit Racing Cars, Karts, Rally Cars, Moto Cross and Drag Racing, with a few specially invited drivers also coming along to enhance the Event.

The intention is to bring Motor Sport to the doorstep of the people of Arima and environs. And honoured guests are the schools with special children in the area. It is expected that racing will be run off between 11:00 am and 4:30 pm. And then the fun continues with live performances by the Malabar R.C. School Steelband, The Rock Band MAYARO, from Vistabella, and now coming up to Arima!  And there will also be other top performers who will be revealed on the day of the Event.

Safety will be uppermost in the minds of the organizers, with all members of the public being accommodated on the inside of the Stadium, and they will also be kept at least 15 feet away from the fence. The entire course will see barriers being placed along the centre median.

With the Pit area for all competing Cars and Bikes being accommodated in the Car Park on the Western side of the Stadium, space is limited and so will be the number of competitors from each discipline.

Official Sponsors for the Arima Grand Prix 2011 are: ERLs Caribbean Ltd, Subway, LubeTech  / Total Lubricants, Castrol, NP Marketing Co. Ltd., King Kool Ltd., Blue Mountain Water, Cell Plus Ltd., Brava International, Grands Bay Paper Products Ltd, TriniTuner.com and Zorce Racing Magazine.

The Drag Racing will be a demonstration-display of Drag Racing over a distance just less than 1/8. of a mile. We are working within constraints of the area we have to use. This will be held on the Dual-carriage way on the Boulevard South of the Larry Gomes Stadium, with cars running from East to West on either side of the median.
Thus the limit on cars faster than 12 seconds. And not more than 30 cars will be accepted, same for each discipline - again this being defined by the limited parking on the West Car Park which will be the pit area.
Racing will strictly be grudge match competition.

Safety is uppermost in our minds and the entire event is being planned as a display of Motor Racing disciplines within this limited area.

Public will pay the big sum of $20.00 and enter through the Northern gate.

The Pit area is the Western Car Park in the LG Stadium. There is very limited parking space and so no way we can have any "crews" on display at this Event. But we will be glad for your support.

Solodex cars will be taking part in a "Time attack" event.

hello, mr. autosport

i'm assuming you are involved in the AGP, given your responses thus far.

i have a car with a 3.5lb fire extinguisher bolted into it, and a dot and snell full faced helmet (hjc), but no roll cage.
my car is capable of going faster than 13 secs but not faster than 12secs in the 1320.
i am very interested in entering the drag racing event is there going to be a meeting to discuss guidlines and entry requirements for each discipline of motorsport?

looking forward to your response.
thanks

There will be a briefing meeting for all interested competitors on Wednesday 13th April, at Larry Gomes Stadium - 7:00pm where we will explain how we are going to be running the competition.

As indicated above, space at this location is limited, thus competitors will be limited - to ensure that all who are participating will have a good time, in a safe environment.

Great , looking forward to this event , maybe it could be a temporary 1/8th mile track for future dedicated drag events. That being said many would just like to know the following :

1. How does one enter a vehicle for this event? I am sure the drag racing aspect of this event would be the most heavily subscribed.

2. What are the fees to race in the drag racing part of this show. ?

3. Are there any prerequisites for the cars or drivers to take part in this drag racing ?

Or I guess we will know after the 13th .

As the vice president of said NSO/TTASA you should know!
you mean to say you don't know what your association is sanctioning?

Postby AutoSport » April 12th, 2011, 12:47 pm

For clarity, this event is entirely a fun event to bring a display of Motor Racing to the people of Arima and environs.

The Circuit Cars and Karting competitors are the only ones who will participate in a “race” with more than two competitors.

The Solodex and Rally competitors will participate in “time attack” style competition with only two vehicles at a time, and set off some distance apart.

Moto Cross riders will determine how they will run.

The Drag cars, again we are not looking for any fast cars, those slower than 12 seconds. The distance is less than 1/8 of a mile. They will run on the Boulevard, South of the Larry Gomes Stadium, one car on either side of the median. We would like those taking part to pair themselves with others of similar speed/bracket. We will not be running any cars to determine a class or bracket.

Again pure fun, a display event for the people of the area. And giving some a chance to “blow out the carbon”.

Because of the limitations of the area we have to use, there will be no “real competition”, no trophies; but we know how any motor racer can be very “competitive” even when running by themselves.

Safety scrutineering will be done to all competing vehicles by their respective management, Drag Racing scrutineering done by AutoSport personnel. Very simple, very fundamental.

And for this we are charging the grand fee of $100.00 and you get four passes with this.

So how you picking which cars will be allowed to run?
Last event in south I see Madcow was allowed to run circuit.
Kill me dead his car was a drag car yes. The man tuning and building skills are amazing.

I am advised that CARS has adopted a system for their members who will be selected to participate in this event.

For Drags this will be done by AutoSport. As indicated before those who wish to run must not be faster than 12 secs. And this will be done on a first come first served basis up to 20 cars, twist our arm and may be 21...

Good observation - we have requested, and been promised, that both sides will be repaved and the little "canal" where this dual carriageway North to South meets the Boulevard East to West will also be "levelled". We are pushing to have this done ASAP.
