TTRC News Release 2011 Rally Season open

Postby sio » February 24th, 2011, 9:13 am

NEWS RELEASE FROM RALLY CLUB – 2011 Rally Season is Open !
By Jacqueline Alexis, TTRC Secretary / PRO

The TTRC’s very successful 2010 season has propelled its management to plan its 2011 Events with even more fervor for its members and motorsport fans.

2010 ended on such high spirits with Rezan “Mr. Consistent” Mohammed picking up the titles of 2010 Overall Winner, Overall 2WD group winner, 2-4 class winner in one victorious sweep. He was oh-so-closely followed by John “Penti” Powell who won his 4WD group 2-N class. Bobby “Ricky” Marshall – a Jamaican national who competed in the Club’s 2010 Championship and captured the 2WD group 2-3 accolades, is returning to Trinidad in 2011 to challenge Mohammed for the Overall 2WD winner. Lastly but not least is Ainsley “Mr. Action” Lochan – winner of 4WD group 3-A class.

Some news on what’s happening in 2011 - activities have already begun for the Club with its Family Day on January 29th at the Ato Boldon Stadium which turned out to be quite enjoyable in spite of the weather – look for the photos on our page (ttrc) on Facebook – to be followed by seven events, 2 of which are the Club’s signature rallies – Rally Trinidad (RT11) and Tobago Rally Festival.

Events are carded for:

 February 27th
 March 31st to April 3rd (RT11)
 May 1st
 July 8th to 10th (Tobago Rally Festival)
 August 7th
 September 18th
 October 23rd.

Marshall may have started a trend as not only is he returning to Trinidad for the 2011 season but Harold Morley – a veteran UK rally driver who now lives in Barbados, is also signing up for the Club’s 2011 Championship and their cars are en route to Trinidad as we speak.

A couple of new driver teams are joining the rally fray from the 1st event – Ryan Peyrau from TTKA with co-driver Simon Rodriguez driving a Suzuki Swift Sport and competing in 2WD group 2-3 class and young Nicholas Lee and Kyle Lee Lum in a Subaru WRX STI competing in 4WD group 2-N class.. and we may acquire more as the season gets on the way.

:When las’ you take ah Wine on ah Sout’ Stage – aptly coined for the 1st event in the midst of the Carnival season, takes place in Cedar Hill in the southland.

To get to Cedar Hill, take the Tarouba Flyover after the Brian Lara Stadium and turn left heading East. At the junction: turn right, then one 1km up: turn left onto Daisy Road, then left at the Ring Road. Drive along look for road marker 10km, take the next gravel road. Image
An alternative route –take the Tarouba Flyover after the Brian Lara Stadium and turn left heading East. At the junction: turn right and stay on this road for about 5 minutes until you reach Flare’s Bar on the left – street after Solomon Street – turn left and this road will take you to the Cedar Hill Pen which is being used as the Service Park. Fans should reach there early to get a good spot on the 4.2km long stage and watch the 20 competitors display their skills on a fairly technical stage in preparation for Rally Trinidad.

The 2nd event of the year is RT11 – planning for which had started in 2010. This event is attracting the top performers of the region – Barbados, Jamaica and St Vincent and the Grenadines. Beginning with a Media Launch on 15th March, motor sport enthusiasts may see a Friday evening sprint in the Hasely Crawford Stadium followed by South Stages on Saturday and Gran Couva Stages on Sunday to end in Saith Park. You’ve got to stay tuned for more details of Rally Trinidad.

Just as they ended 2010, the Club wishes to start 2011 by acknowledging all sponsors, media personnel, marshals, fans and well-wishers and declaring the 2011 Rally Season open !
