shared enclosures

Postby ShaKarz » January 25th, 2007, 9:24 pm

im about to purchase a pair of subs.....
would it matter if i used one chamber n vent for both vs individual chambers and vents for each?
whats the pros and cons of each enclosure and would any favour a "gallery bassline" ie for playing music purposes not really spl or it doesnt matter?

what im about to say is from my personal experience & not what i read online (ah notice dat new sticky on top this section so i trying to be politically correct & give my 2cents based on MY own experience only)

i tested d 1 chamber versus separate chambers story with my 2 12s alpine type R in d same vehicle running off same power\settings playing d same songs ,both sets of boxes using d same vol \ sub , port area\sub & tuning - basically all conditons i tried my best to keep d same

i dont have access to a DB meter so i had to use my ears ....

2 separate boxes played slightly less louder but quite noticeably cleaner - better SQ

single chamber box def played louder but with less SQ - better 4 streetbass

this is just my personal experience so those who disagree dise no scene ,who knows - maybe my test results could have been different with a different brand\size\model of subs ........ :fadein:

thanx for the input ROVIN
i saw the sticky and im taking this oppertunity to learn something about shared vs individual enclosures because i think i can put it to good use.
its a pity but i must admit i dont get tech support from anyone wrt building any boxes lately...i see posts upon posts claiming this forum is for helping each other, to me its not......some maybe think i'll take their designs and make profit out of it or something but its for my personal use not even comp., i have some tools why not do it myself in some spare time instead of paying to get it done.
im waiting for the people on here who "think" they know everything about car audio to explain this to me... everything on this forum ends up in an argument or some competition....explain the comparison 0X

*puts on flame suit and waits*

advantages and disadvantages

single chamber for multiple subs

require less total volume as the subs will be sharing the same cuft as each other thus the enclosure can be smaller

separate chambers or separate boxes

will take up more volume totally in your vehicle due to the material thickness and the required volume each sub needs to see

single chamber

single amp for all subs will work fine
amp for each sub in a single chamber could possibly hve issues if the amps do not respond the same speed you can have cancellations as the subs will not be moving equally

the same can be said if one sub is newer than the other etc

as the sub will not move as much or respond as fast as the other

in my opinion

once you are going with multiple subs PORTED the better way to go is separate chambers

if its sealed you can go single chamber

if space is going to be an issue and you are using 1 amp then you can get away with a single chamber box for the multiple subs keep in mind the subs should all be new or of the same age and condition for optimum performance

as for the advice from "other" people

where is the tech support from the dealors who are selling the equipment as they are the ones who should know best for the applications of thier own equipment

it is also up to the box builders to give out thier designs or not as car audio and box building in this country has become a dog eat dog style buisness
and others prefer to capitalise on the hard work of those who have spent time experimenting to get it right

so dont expect anyone to give out their secrets

you will get general advice
and sdeeing that you want to build on your own then i suggest to take the general advice and do some experimenting of your own to get the sound that you want
