As the topic states, I need some honest reviews about these subs. Everything that you guys can possibly say about them I would appreciate.

Someone else with more info may be able to chime in but I think the atomic line was designed for users who prefer loud (tune medium to high & feed it plenty power).

from their site : http://www.atomicspeakers.com/?pg=series_extinction_12

Quick Specs

2000Watts
SPL competition Woofer.
Cast Aluminum Basket
Double stacked magnet
3 inch heavy gauge high temp voice coil
Extreme long excursion

from d ele go up is their spl subs though trinis use them for daily use

if u like high freq bass like 45hz & up like what dub has then it might be what u want but personally im not a fan of their 12" ele model that has a 50hz fs though d 15" with its much lower 31hz fs sounds okish ...

Thanks Rovin, you always seem to be very helpful and I appreciate that.

What sub will be comparable with the ELE with same rms rating and +/- US$50 in cost!

American Bass VFLs.
I have a pair of 12s I used for SPL and they are the same as atomic ELEs/APXs.

I still have my pair of VFL 12s dual 4 if that's an option. The 2 12s would be cheaper than a 15.

That driver looks like a pro audio driver posing as a car audio one. Well, if it wasn't for the low Vas.

It might actually do well in a 40 Hz TH which should take up approximately 3 cu.ft. of space when built. I have a sim sitting around for that somewhere, just in case anyone's interested in giving it a try.

Here's what I was fiddling with:

Notes:

1. Atomic does not quote Le. I used 1mH for my sim, but it's likely higher than that. Once it's between 1mH and 2mH it should not affect the performance too much. Above that the parameters of the horn should be adjusted. Best to measure Le (and the rest of the t/s parameters) before committing to building one of these.

2. The compression ratio is a bit high, at just over 1/4. If the ELE12's cone is tough, this should not be an issue. However special care will need to taken to ensure that the cross sectional areas between S1 and S2 are kept as close to the model as possible (go even a little bit larger and performance suffers). A throat adapter should be considered if you plan to build this, to compensate for the effect of the driver's cone on S2.

3. You'll still need to come up with the folding. Have a look at the THAM15 or POC TH page for folding ideas. Alternatively, you could go for a "Cyclops" type fold (particularly if you can't come up with a fold that can accomodate the speaker's magnet in the mouth of the horn), but that would mean adjusting the model a bit.

4. Based on my experience with the POC TH, I suggest going with a larger mouth, to compensate for the driver shading it a bit. You can go up an additional 100 cm^2 easily without significantly impacting the frequency response.

5. About 6 inches or so of lightly stuffed polyester fiberfill between S1 and S2 should cut down the resonances above 150 H a bit.
