I dropped a 5A-FE (plus tranny) from a front cut of a corolla AE110 in my EE80.

Runs well, not to mention, there was modification to only one of the mounts (left side one only). I believe with a good mechanic on the job, the 5A-FE might just measure up bolt for bolt with the AE80 (very little modification)....

It depends on how much you willing to spend. IMHO if you going fuel injected you might as well go with a 20valve. You need to do over the fuel lines, get a high pressure fuel pump, adjust one of the mounts, rewire, etc. If you looking to do it properly you need to put aside about 12k.

If you sticking carbie you dont need to do as much work and you can get a 3e (from a ae100) for small money. Will fit up easy and is really reliable. This is the option i took as the car runs decent and i can save up to do a proper 20v swap. Should cost you about $4000 total. If you can get a manual 3e or swap a starlet gearbox onto the 3e you will have a relaible engine with some decent pep.

Had a 20 valve in one of my AE80 corollas. No regrets.
