08-10 Corolla?

Postby fras » February 8th, 2012, 5:24 pm

Whats pros and cons?

I heard that the electrical (lights switches) give trouble?

Whats the difference in the trims (XLi, GLi & LX)?

The engine appears to be the same as the NZE?

http://www.toyota-trinidad.com/CorollaSpec.aspx

The LX trim is the high end model inclusive of fogs and sunroof.

XLi is the one with hubcaps and no fogs.

Sorry I dont know much about the pros and cons.

Looking to buy one myself.

Like all vehicles now in T&T they are pricey, but they continue to perform very well and do retain comparatively good resale values.
The 1.5 drivetrain configuration remains a solid toyota performer and have been around both locally and internationally for a long time now.
I strongly suggest if the service life and resale value are important considerations, servicing of these units should be supported with proper quality part and service procedures.
Too few owners take time to read the owners manual from cover to cover and end up victims of repairers who themselves make it up as they go along.
Oh! for goodness sake avoid putting things like 20"wheels if you want to avoid being a frequent customer for suspension and associated parts.

The 2 items on this vehicle to be certain about are tranny and steering rack.
With respect to the latter item this assembly is not repairable and you therefore want to be certain of the condition and as far as the tranny goes, hopefully the owner is using the toyota ws fluid which is pink/reddish in colour.
Check the tranny fluid for fluid condition pink/red good, going to dark/dirty red needs change, real dirty dark colour change well over due.
Other service items which may be necessary tend to be manageable.
Mileage of these drivetrains needs to be assessed in conjunction with service stds. and history.
Allow a budget of $10,000 as a risk management fund to get everything to where they should be.

Engine is the same as the previous NZE-121 with a few changes, electronic throttle body being one of them.
