Hello Tuners, my 2005 local NZE got flooded out with the recent rains in Diego Martin, and now the airbag light is on. I have heard that the airbag module might be located underneath the driver's seat. I have no experience with this particular situation and don't know where to start. Anyone experienced this problem? Any advice? Thanks!

Sorry to hear that man.

There is no module under the driver's or passenger seat. There is a seat position airbag sensor under the driver's seat if your car came equipped with that. The seat has to be removed to get to it.

There are airbag sensors in the engine bay mounted on the frame. They are the small yellow boxes near the ABS unit and battery.

There is a center sensor assembly under the center console (where the hand brakes and center pocket is). This might be what you are looking for, because all the SRS sensors link to this.

Best thing would be to have a diagnostic scan performed to determine which part is at fault instead of changing things by guess.

This is extremely helpful information. I believe the water didn't get up near as high as the sensors mounted on the frame in the engine bay or under the center consle, so best guess would be that the car is equipped with the seat position airbag sensor and maybe that is the problem. Again, thanks a lot for this information. Will do the scan.

dan86 is correct here. I had a problem with mine and it turned out to be the wire going to the sensor. You never be too careful. It may be a simple issue.
Let us know what the scan turns up.

I don't think I will do the scan first. First thing Saturday morning I will remove the seat and clean any associated wiring harnesses (those conennecting seatbelt pretensioners and airbag sensors etc). The floor of the car was covered with muddy slush. It is very probable that this went into the connectors. I am fairly certain that the water did not reach the sensors under the center console. If a dirty connector is the problem and it is cleaned, I believe the airbag warning light should go off when the system does the airbag self test; correct me if I'm wrong.

Problem was the SRS module got wet and had to be changed completely. I don't know the cost of it, as I havent changed it.
