Fellow tuners looking to buy a used of course 1999 Prado land Cruiser that's in very good condition physically but I need to know what to look out for before I buy and what issues if any these SUVs have or will have. All comments appreciated. Thanks in advance.

yo, so u looking to buy a prado, 1999, a 90series, most common engines are, 3.0 TD 1KZ-TE, 2.7 3RZ-FE, 3.4 V6 5VZ-FE, 2.8 3L, and the 3.05L, in that order.

as of most toyotas the engine code will be represented on the chassis, eg, if it came with the 1KZ, the # will read, KZJ90*****, so that way u can tell if has the original engine or was ever changed.

they have very few problems, once they are well maintained and not abused, i know folks who have abused those and these suvs are champion bred, they take licks and shed no tear......

two isssues i came across with them are tranny problems, but thats after +200K and this may be dues to capicitor leak or ecu problems, and also because the front axles are always turning, it prematurely wears the CVs.......

make sure to properly check the vehicle, esp the 4wd system when u go to buy, carry your mech and let him properly inspect it, alot of ppl buy a 4wd and dont try the range or engage while test driving....

Thanks bro well noted. I checked one in La Romain and the van looks good but rides like the four shocks gone and the entire dashboard shakes in rough road. The air breather box is held down by tiestraps and the transmission is a bit lazy for a toyota prado. But they asking 165k for it.
