A description of type of noise would help eg light squeal, metalic knock, rattle etc.

I heard the rattling noise can be lifter/tappets. Also in the NZE if the "strainer" in the sump pan is clogged oil takes longer to go up.
Please correct me if im wrong. toyolink.

The 1nzfe (1500cc) engine emits a early morning slight squeal when drive/serpentine belt needs changing.
The 3zzfe engine which came in the Singapore Corolla is the one more prone to sludging which results in lifter noise and eventual engine failure.
In the case of the Fielder referred to in this thread, what can be done as a test is -pour a bit of water on the belt on start-up and see if the noise is reduced or stops.
There is also a possibility that either alternator or AC pulley bearing has gone a bit dry.In this latter case spray a bit of WD40 and observe what happens (try and direct spray to central area of pulley only).

Also it could be the timing chain making noise...
