this may be something trivial but i need to know what is best for an Evo Vi in terms of rim size, 17" or 18" and also what is the best width etc, i am not too versed on all the specs and whatnot but i am concerned on the best performance, handling and all combined with good looks,
what size tyres and rims do you guys have on your evos?

depends on what u looking for EXACTLY.

i have 245s on the stock 17s

presently i have 235s on some 18" x 8 and when i lock the steering fully the tires touch and also i tend to find that in hard or even moderate cornering there is alot of touching in the well. So i am considering downgrading to 17" but also wondered if a rim/tire with less width on the 18" would have avoided that the touching/rubbing.
I just want the car to look good with whatever rim it has, perform well as it was designed to, and handle like a beast. i was given the impression that performance will be improved with the 17". i also was wondering if fellow evo owners who ride on 18" have the same disatisfaction as i do with the rubbing and all.

You need to look at offset as well...offset determines where the wheel mounts to the hub....meaning that one wheel may "stick out" further than another leading to the problem you are having....

I dont think that 18X8 in a proper offset should rub....depends on the ride height of the car as well...

e6 TME seems to be one of the better all round rims...light weight, 17", clears brembos

on the stock Evo 7 Rims, I ran 255/40/17 RA-1's
On 18 x 9 Advan's 245/ 40/18 Toyo Proxes.
Car is lowered and never had any touching problems. :mrgreen:

Thanks Porn Star, but one dumb question, when your car is at full body lean during cornering they don't even touch then? do you have upgraded suspension?

may or may not be helpful but i found it interesting; the above link is for a wheel offset calculator to determine how the change in a given set of rim size and offset affects space in comparison to what you had before.

Porn star also do you know if the E7 has naturally more space in the wheel well than the E6

All of the following factors you need to consider:

Wheel width
Wheel offset
Tire width
Tire profile
Ride height
Shock/spring dampening rates

All of the above are important to gain the ultimate combination of performance and visual appeal. Of course it would depend on your driving style and application of the vehicle itself.

I agree with a previous post. An 18" wheel along with the correct specs above would look and perform exceptionally well for street and performance type driving.

Visit www.evolutionm.net and research the site. I'm sure you would be able to find valuable info there.

At full body lean it never touched.
I only have Tein lowering springs.
