Need some advice on transmission.
At 42000km I flushed my CY2 auto transmission because I thought it was better than drain and refill.
Only time I did something to the car outside of my service at diamond motors.
I know they drain and refill. So we don't ever have to change the internal filter.
They are saying that at 80000km I should think about getting it changed.
What do you guys do when you change tranny fluid.
I am 6000km ( 2 months) away from oil change so I have time to consider.

When I flushed it the first time it took 10 quarts of Dia SP III so I guess drain and refill next two months and then I could follow up next year with a drain and refill again.
It will use still use 10 bottles combined for two drain & refill.
Diamond motors told me 5 quarts.
Good to hear this method is still used.

^ ^ ^ The Galant VR-G's tranny was starting to get "grabby" a couple years ago... CAUTION: Highly technical term in use. :lol:
I couldn't afford a pulldown & repair; so I tried a tranny flush.
"Best move" right there. No more issues... and it's more than three years ago.

792-2462 is the last number I reached Nick at last year July.

The service manual recommends changing at 40K.
The manual do not drain and refill.... they drain , refill, drain refill , etc . ie flushing 2 or 3 times ,more until the fulid comes out clean.
Dont know if this is done at DM.

As for the filter, I do not see any mention of changing a filter in the manual or if one exists.
I know the CK4 had and external tranny filter.

Nebulous did you do the flushing yourself?
According to the manual it can be done , all you need is some simple tools and something to measure the amount of fulid coming out so you will not run the tranny dry while engine is on.

It used almost 10 quarts with a transmission flush machine. When I asked Diamond motors 2yrs ago they said they only drain and refill not sure if they use the method Anthony stated.
I have used the machine on 2 previous cars one with over 200k km on it and another with over 120k km.
For me it usually take 2 years for me to cover 40 000km and so that is why I used the machine.I am surprise to see your post from the manual that states the other method.

Does the manual ever recommend the use of a machine on these tranny?

Actually the manual said to use the machine but also it mentioned if a machine is not available to use the method I mentioned. Since most users do not have a machine home the method I mentioned can be used ( as a weekend project).

So they do have a recommendation for a machine transmission fluid change.
Thanks for the verification.
I have seen online that Mitsubishi recommends a machine but also read that Honda America does Not

Then I might just stick with the machine flush since I have done it on this car before with good results.

This may be pricey.
Once the service manager at DM told me I have to do a TB cleanout and this would cost around $ 1200.00!
Online I saw all you need to do the TB clean out , very simple and only money spent was for cleaner.

Anthony is $1,200.00 to clean a throttle body you say???? Hmnnnn....

Anyways, I usually do a drain and refill. Works pretty well and tranny has not given any problems to date. I usually check the tranny level every now and then and smell to make sure it does smell burnt in between changes. The flush thing I have never done.

I carried the car in Duncan village they had a machine that connects through the a transmission line under the front right of the car (not Ron's but they have a machine also I carried the civic there) but don't know the exact address.The guy name is Richie.

Never did a throttle body on this car. I did service the impreza throttle body by Bird in Waterloo simple and only cost a $100

zero if fulid comes out clean lucky you.
I believe why they (the manual) said to do it more than once so that the old fulid is completely replaced.
Remember once you drain via the hose and drain plug, their is still fulid remaining in the torque converter, so by doing this flush ensures you have new fulid in the tranny... no old contiminated fulid left over which defeats the purpose of a fulid change at 40K.

Doesn't the machine eliminate that problem?

AFAIK it works like a simultaneous vacuum and pump. Sucking out all the oil fluid and pumping in the new.

When the system is full it stops.

Yes I believe the machine would do this.
The explanation I gave was if it was done without a machine.

The flush is the best way to do it, there's no way to get all the oil out if the converter, lines, oil cooler etc. The drain and refill works to an extent, you'll have to repeat the procedure several times and still won't get the same results as a flush.....but It's up to you decide if it's that serious or not for your car

Guy name is Richi Auto Tech contact @ 758-8860. before Debe. He also sells the fluids at a good price. Similar machine to Ron's and Master Serve.
