Can someone explain why we can't import Diesel vehicles?

I want to bring in a Diesel 5 Series BMW from the UK.

Is there any work around? I know there was talk that I can bring the car in scraps to be put back together... but what can I do? Do those RORO guys have any benefit in this case?

I read the "CONDITIONS TO THE GRANT OF IMPORT FOR THE RIGHT HAND MOTOR VEHICLES BY INDIVIDUALS."
So correct if I`m wrong, cause I think I prefer to import a vehicle, possibly nissan teana JM or Toyota crown, or nissan fuga from 2006 or 07. As a private citizen of T&T all I need to import a vehicle is the importation license? and after that is acquired, what next? Is the license "a million dollars" as in real expensive? Anyone here ever tried it? I acknowledge the tsunami in Japan and most likely they will sell some of those soiled vehicles to unsuspecting ppl (most likely trinis).

Aren't the taxes supposed to be calculated using the cost of the vehicle (probably the FOB price) and not the CIF price?

Sadly, no. CIF is used.

It's interesting to see that the guys on this thread that giving the detailed breakdown of how the cost is calc'd on these units are leaving out one important fact...

no dealer realistically submits the price they paid to japan for the unit to customs...hence the estimations of duty/vat in these so called 'breakdowns' are misrepresented...

to put it simple..dealers 'de-value' the vehicle here when submitting documents and make you think they paid duties and whatever based on the price you know they paid in japan...so on top of the markup they normally make, they squeeze in another '20-30K' this way

nowadays everybody know how to calculate the cost to land a JDM vehicle here..any monkey with a banana can do this...but as usual...trinis again...hada be smartmen lol

Are there registered roro dealers in trinidad who import cars of your choice for a fee that are established and well known enough to have a proper website with contact information?
Desperately looking for a company that will order a car around $65,000 that is trustworthy enough to have "Scotiabank" actually grant me a loan....:S
Any help would be really appreciated
That bank won't give me a loan if I wanted an individual to import it....

Hi. Someone had posted estimated costs (MVT, VAT, Duties) etc.

Does the "no longer here " mean its "somewhere else"

Can someone point me "where" ? Thanks!
