Advice on Purchase

Postby Racegod » May 10th, 2010, 10:20 pm

Hello Subbie folks...

i'm looking at purchasing a subaru that i saw up for sale...

its a 2002 Impreza Hatch... the 1.6...
i think its what you guys call bug eye...

i'm looking for some reviews on the car... how good is it?

how easy are parts to find?
whats the cost for maintaining these things in comparison to lets say a Civic...

i'm expecting some pep from this seeing that its based on the 1.6 platform engine... can you please provide some information about the performance, gas consumption, and expected problems...

what tricks have you all got to get the best out of this car...

If you want an economical good daily driver that is a subaru yes. You could consider a toyota corolla NZE.

If you want performance no.

probably one of these

likely an EJ16?

the ? are the last digit of the engine code that you will actually have to look at the car for
As with most subaru engines
first 2 letters =series
next 2 digits = displacement
5 th digit is a a subtype

eg EJ205 on the Legacy GT
EJ207 on the STI WRX

EJ16---->

* Displacement: 1597 cm³
* Bore: 87.9 mm
* Stroke: 65.8 mm
* Compression Ratio: 9.4:1 - 10.0:1
* Valvetrain: SOHC
* Fuel Delivery carburetor

* Horsepower: 100 PS (74 kW; 99 bhp) @ 6000 rpm
* Torque: 138.3 N·m (102 lb·ft) @ 4500 rpm

Flex said that if you need a daily driver go for Corolla. I agree. But I also feel that the NZE Corolla will accelerate faster than the Subaru Impreza. I import both cars and I feel that the Corolla is zippier.
The 1.5 Subaru is JDM and carries the EJ 15. The 1.6 is Singapore spec and carries the EJ 16. They are no big time powerhouses.

RR.
