Desiel oil for Gas engine?

Postby legacy x » January 16th, 2011, 12:20 am

Fellas,

There's a Red Line DESIEL Oil on the market...some people claim that it can be used in gas engines.
Is there any truth to this?

15W40 Diesel Motor Oil
Recommended for API CJ-4/CI-4 Plus/CI-4/CF/CH-4/CF-4
Also for API SM/SL/SJ/SH/SG/CF and ACEA A3/B3/B4 E7/E9

You need to look at the rating of the oil.
API has two ratings for oils.
There is the C* for compression type ignition engines (aka diesel) (latest version is CJ-4) and there is S* for spark ignition engine (gasoline engines fall in here) (latest version is SN)

The Redline 15W40 (and most other diesel oils) have both the C and S ratings, and is therefore suitable for for use in both diesel and gasoline engines.
For more information on API, SAE and ACEA ratings, see the second post in the link in my signature.
