The DP was gutted for more airflow out of the turbo.
I did it based on theory. A lil backpressure is good for NA cars, but Turbo cars needs a free flowing exhaust for maximum performance with the sacrifice of noise.
THe stock DP gutted with the stock exhaust yielded no significant noise, but when I put int he 3" exhaust it was too lound and I had to drop a resonator in the middle.
Honestly we did not dyno it, but I felt an increase in power. The legas used to feel like it was running out of breath at higher RPMs, this little hack helped a bit on power delivery at higher RPMs.

for a carb'd car, yes exhaust backpressure affects rich/lean condition.
modern day FI cars dont care about backpressure in the exhaust. More free flowing the better.
