Legacy info plz

Hey
I'm considering buying a legacy as my next car very soon. I originally planned on a 2008 spec b sedan, however i may soon have the opportunity to buy a 2.5L turbo 2008 model at a great price. I heard that the 2.0L spec B has better performance, higher hp though. Any info on this? what's the main differences other than engine size? Gas consumption? What's the name of the 2.5 model (like spec B, sti etc)?
Thanks for any help.

The Spec B's have the Bilstein suspension setup....but I think the more experienced Legacy guize like VexxDogg and Nemesis wud be of better help.....good luck either way...they are GREAT cars....

Thanks a lot. Very helpful.
Is the car I'm talking about the S402? I'm not sure it is because I was told it had less hp than the spec b.
He did say it was meant for the Australian market though. Maybe he got the hp wrong?

Yeah I doubt that as well. He would have made that a selling point for sure.
So anyone has info about the model I'm talking about?
I don't want to buy a car with a bigger engine, use more gas and get less performance out of it. I think the bigger engine would have more top end power but I prefer more low end acceleration if i have to choose.

I'm not sure about the 08's and I'm far from an expert..

The differences between the spec b and the normal GT are mostly cosmetic, with the exception of the suspension
Different bumper, trim, wheels.
Engine/ AT are the same.
THe spec B came with aluminum cradles and bilsteins, although the bilsteins came on most of the FU LGT's.

Confirm the engine is in fact a 2.5.
Could be he swapped in a brand new usdm block.

It is a 2.5. Someone bought it from neal and massey then decided they didn't want it and traded it in. The guy that was telling me about it said that it is meant for the Australian market. He is arranging for me to see the car and meet the owner, so i will find out more then hopefully. I would like to do some research and look at some reviews though, but the only 2.5 legacy i can find is the on in the us.

I think it was about 4 yrs ago. Someone bought it after the trade and they are now selling it. It is a light blue, but maybe it is the same model as the silver one you know. How does that one perform compared to a spec B? And gas?

Yep, the 2009/2009 just before the new shape from Massy are 2.5 Turbos. Those were imported from Australia (Liberty). When my uncle bought his, massy forgot to buy the legacy badging with it, so it has liberty written on it.

The local legacies are TAME....2.5L and all....leather that can't take the weather...dash that does crack...some of the late australian 2008's might come with stock HID's..but I doubt...my boss bought one and it was all halogen...:-(...

Plus they come with KYB shocks....really lame to put on a car like that...steel cradle..steel control arms ...no rear wiper...waste of +/- $360K if u ask me

JDM spec b and GT are also the same..except for the bumper, grille and a few other trims. The bilstein is mostly standard equipment on both GT and spec b in japan...the buyer has the option on including it....don't get tie up with the USDM spec b...that comes with manual tranny and some nice aesthetics...in japan however, the spec b's are auto or manual...same platform as the GT...same tranny...same engine...just better looking

JDM GT's and spec b's have aggressive tuning for their better octane..and their less strict emission standards allow for better overall performance..

if u look at the club.liberty.asn.au u'd see that the AUDM legacies (liberties) which are the ones we have here local are not up to the standard of the JDM GT/Spec B's according to what alot of the owners indicate in their posts

That said..if u are a fiend for leather and sunroof and well the mc intosh deck go for the local one...if you looking at strictly performance and handling...the JDM is the winner

my $0.02

Btw..why do people ask about gas consumption on a F/I car...i mean as far as turbo cars go the legacy is pretty fuel efficient especially on hi way runs...other than that..traffic , boosting etc the consumption is what u'd expect from a turbo car..not all that gr8....

prepare to spend buddy....premium fuel FTW lol

Yes the Spec B will perform better. But it depends on what he's using the car for. If he wants a softer ride and more features, nothing in Japan can compare to a local.
And actually if you line them up I believe you'd find the JDM is only slightly faster stock. It just feels a lot faster because it's more agressively tuned.
I agree on the gas question partially. Don't ask about it if you're considering a JAPANESE F/I car. If you go Euro they're generally quite fuel efficient, often more so than non-turbos.

The gas consumption question wasn't meant like that. I know that I will be spending a lot on gas. What I wanted to know was the difference between the two, because if the 2.5 used more gas and gave the same or less performance than the spec b it would be lose lose. I also want the blistein shocks and HID's.
I would like the feel of a nice strong acceleration though. Kind of push you back into your seat. When I test drive the 2.5 then I can make a decision.
Thanks for all the info so far it has been very helpful.
Please continue to add if you think of anything else.

Neither will push you back in the seat in stock form.

got a ride in a legacy today and i am really impressed ..acceleration , handling and stopping was really amazing ....contemplating on either a legacy or a van , living rio claro and working pt lisas might take a toll on a legacy and might be a bit harsh on gas also .

Maybe that was a bit of an over statement. I will just have to drive these cars and see what they feel like.

Well someone else bought the car before I even saw it.
Anyway I really want a spec b. Anyone know who can bring one in? A 2008. I don't see any for sale from the RORO dealers.I've been looking a couple months now. Anyone know of one for sale?

wagon or sedan?

2008 will be abit pricey...about 215K up

sedan for sure, spec b. could be 2007. Achievors and japan motors both said they recently had a 2007 spec b for for 180k. Mano's trading and JASP in diego said it would cost 180k to bring in an 07 as well.
Now I'm looking for reviews on people or other people who bring in cars and to compare prices.
I'm still a bit hesitant to order in a car b/c I've never done it before and I don't want a set of headache dealing with a smart man.
U import?

No I don't...i brought in my first legacy for myself...was alot of stress...and honestly 2yrs back the savings were gr8..but now...with the yen about 77:1..u'll be lucky if u get a good 2007/8 for about 16K USD.

Japanmotors full ah sh*t...the last spec b they had was 4mths ago and sold for 200K

Achievors , crism or bessmotors might be the good dealers to check..the other guys im not too sure about...bcuz of the high cost they wud tend to buy the lower grade high mileage legacy's at auction and try to sell it upwards 180K...

My advice to u..if u letting someone import it on ur behalf tell them u wana see the auction details like the mileage and the grade...cuz some dealers jus flash the car when it come to trini and call it a grade 4.5 up

I'd avoid japanmotors like the plague...they usually do odometer correction on their cars.... :-(

Thanks for the info man. How do you know it's the actual auction details? U see it on the auction website or something like that?
