Legacy error code

Postby original_lollybob » May 2nd, 2014, 8:12 pm

Wasn't there a legacy buying guide around?

Anyways, here's there scene guys...

Looking to buy a legacy (my 3rd... House building is expensive)... Getting a potentially good deal on a 2003 bl5 sedan NA.

Body in excellent condition... Engine looks good at a cursory look over... Interior fair... 150000 km

2 issues have me a little worried

1. Starting the car brings up an Er 55 on the odometer. Pressing the little stick returns the screen to trip a and b mileage. Restarting car brings up the msg again

2. The electronic ac controls work but the actual ac doesn't blow. The owner is aware of an ac leak but was unsure of what caused the ac to actually not blow.

Any of these issues sound familiar to u guys and seem fairly rectifiable or should I stray away from this one?

A quick google shows it's actually ERSS... a speed sensor problem

Does the blower work if the AC compressor is disengaged (switch on panel)?
The AC would not come on if there's a leak IIRC.
Could be another issue.

Regarding the Error 55 Get any stored codes pulled ASAP, the leggy ECU should keep a history of the last few errors.
