HELP - 2002 WRX starts sometimes

I have a Subaru WRX 2002 JDM Model, It has the original EJ20 engine, running perferct no problems with the exception of a very weird issue. The car would start normally on some occasions and then all of a sudden sometimes would just tumble when trying to start. The fix I discovered by accident would be to loosen the fuel line going from the fuel filter to the engine until you get a little release of fuel then tighten and the car would start normal again.

I have changed the fuel filter and the problem is still occurring, The car accelerates normal and does not hesitate under acceleration.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?

sounds like the fuel line is not holding the pressure in the line..there is a regulator on the return line after the filter..if that goes bad you get that problem so it's worth a check

Fuel pump cavitation may be occurring also causing the loss of pressure. You should look into changing the fuel pump as well.

i had a weird starting issue one time, turned out to be cam/crank sensors going. they both control ignition and fueling so its worth giving them a check/clean.

Thanks for the suggestion guys, will try the suggestions and report back, as I said it happens very intermittently , like today I didnt get the problem, but will start with the regulator

Just an update it was the fuel pressure regulator car starts perfectly now
