Mazda 6 engine noise.

Postby cwellington » April 9th, 2012, 12:18 pm

So I changed my serpentine belt and belt tensioner all because I was hearing a noise that was sounding like a sort of vibrating/semi-crackling one and starts approx. 20 secs after the engine starts, when the car is at a standstill and in traffic. The noise gets louder when the car is at a standstill and the steering wheel is turned to either side or when the a/c is on, (whilst compressor is active, when compressor shuts off noise level is reduced. Can someone please help, thanks. Anyway having this issue found a fix?

If you dont mind me asking did you buy the belt and tensioner at the firm, where did you have them replaced and also could you give me the part numbers for them.

Sorry to say am never going through the firm again. A big part of the reason am in this mess is because of them. Anyway, I order my parts online. I got my belt and tensioner from amazon. I didn't need the part number, I created a garage on their site and they basically tell me what fits and what doesn't. If that doesn't work you can check out http://allmazda.net. They are pricey but at least they list the part numbers. Trust me when I say, you just have to be resourceful. I bought a Gates tensioner part number - 38408. It seems to be working fine. Aside from the noise I hear which I don't think has anything to do with the tensioner in the first place. The belt is a Brando part number 6PK2245. Let me know if you need anymore info.

Well I ordered a Goodyear 49006 Gatorback Idler and Tensioner Pulley from amazon and they said it's a perfect fit for my car. Low and behold when it gets here my mechanic saying it's too big. Any one has the part number of the idler pulley for the 03 mazda6? Or know where I can get one to buy?

Check here http://onlinemazdaparts.com/parts/2003/ ... R%20PULLEY

I think it is the same for the 2.0 and 2.3 engine

It's supposed to be the same. The only reason I didn't go with that site before is cause they don't show you a pic of what you're buying or the product numbers. You bought from there already spirit?

Well my battery came on and stayed on this afternoon. I am praying to God that it's not my new alternator that I just shipped and installed 2 months ago! I am soooooo really to take a tank of gas to this car!

Well guys I replace my alternator and the alternator was dead. I put in a new one and today my battery light came on. Thing is I tested my battery and it's fully charged and with the car on I am getting a reading of 13.55 - 60 volts. I have no idea what's going on with this car at this point. I seriously doubt that I bought to dead alternators. Can wiring in a car kill an alternator?

I got my alternator from here www.autopartswarehouse.com. You might need to call the credit card company and get the 6 digit transaction code from them so that they can verify that you're actually the holder of the card. As they don't accept international visas. They have an assortment of brands including OEMs but I that didn't solve my issue. The squealing is gone but now am getting the battery light. I feel like am at my whits end.
