SGV differential

Postby Pantos » August 26th, 2011, 10:36 pm

Anybody knows exactly what type of center diff that the current (2005 onwards) generation SGV has, including the 3 door model? Torsen or viscous coupling?
Seeing many different opinions out there on exactly which one it is. Wikipedia doesn't specify either.

I finally found what I was looking for, and posted it on another thread, but thought I'd put it here also.
The Third Generation Grand Vitara does not use a viscous coupling

The LSD in the GV is a purely mechanical unit, it does not have any clutches or viscous fluid to fail. It has only 2 side gears and a bunch of tapered wedges that slide back and forth between them. It's really cool, but hard to wrap your head around how it works until you actually see the insides of it..
