2013 Grand Vitara (Facelift)

Postby NorStar2K » August 9th, 2012, 12:09 am

On 11 July Suzuki announced that a refreshed Japanese-market Suzuki Escudo will bow for 2013, sporting a new front fascia and wheels and dropping its rear spare tire carrier, among other tweaks. Suzuki's American PR staff has confirmed to Autoblog that we will be getting some of the updates here as well, in the form of a facelifted 2013 Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Suzuki tells us that an official announcement will be made later this month, but confirmed that the Grand Vitara will be indeed be offered in a model with external spare tire. The updated look seems designed to make the long-in-the-tooth Grand Vitara seem more of a crossover than traditional SUV, though we assume Suzuki isn't ditching the transfer case and low-range gearing that sets it apart from the cute ute set.

Japanese customers will also get a special X-Adventure edition of the GV, which packages features like a sunroof, stability control, 18-inch wheels, and an interior with contrasting red stitching on the suede-look seats and leather-wrapped wheel and gearshift.

maybe it will grow on me, or perhaps when I see it in person I'll like it, but for now, I'm kinda indifferent to it. Since its debut, this model GV has pretty much looked the same, and now that it's due to be put out to pasture they want to funky up the grill, and remove the spare tire (and still have the tail gate open out rather than up); I'm sorry, but this mild refresh is a couple years late. Then again who knows, maybe this is a sign that Suzuki intends to hold on to this third gen for a bit longer than expected :|

And how much of their customer base are they gonna then lose because it becomes unafforable? Nah, ballers don’t buy suzuki anyway...they go to the other side of the showroom @ LS motors. Even if they did put the 3.0tdi and full differential in the rear, the Sorento would still be a more competitive option at what I guesstimate would be the price of your concept Vitara.

Not looking to bruise any die-hard Suzuki egos (myself included) but just telling it how it is.

This isn't the 3G SGV, this is the final facelift for the 2G model.

The 3G will be a complete redesign. The 2G is 2006 - DATE. Facelift 1 - 2009, Facelift 2 - 2013.

^^If they go more stylish it might turn into a soft roader. The present SGV is probably the only midsize suv right now that can handle some real off road in its stock form.

Aidan, there are two platforms for the 3G SGV; a soft-roader CUV and a dedicated 4WD SUV for the die-hard off-roader.
This NextGen CUV is targeted to complete with the mainstream soft-roaders such as the Tucson, Sportage, etc.
